As a fairly recent Panamanian resident I needed to hear this. I have been torn two directions on this, mainly trying to mind my own business, wait and see what the Panameños will do. While I was hoping Trump would start cleaning up some issues in the States I was completely blindsided by his brash, antagonistic move on Panamá. My first instinct was please stay the hell out of Panama's business but then I start wondering if Trump's concerns about National security are legitimate. Above all i wish he would've been more diplomatic and cordial, maybe sat down and had a one on one with Mulino instead of pissing off the hard working, humble Panamanian people whom I've come to love and respect. But we all know loud and brash is Trump's style. I spend way too much time reading social media comments and not surprisingly many Panameños are pissed. I even saw several instances of American flags and pictures of Trump burning. Anyway, I am definitely not changing my mind on Panamá. I only hope the great people I've come to know there don't carry their resentment toward the everyday immigrant gringo trying to blend in and assimilate into their beautiful Country.

Kent here, love the comments. My plan over the next few weeks is to roam the streets here and get some candid interviews of Panamanians. Here's the thing though: We are used to brash leaders in these parts of the world. Big, macho types who speak loudly and carry a small stick lol. My hope is that the narrative will eventually shift from a top priority "National Security Threat" to a more diplomatic and measured "Lets figure out a way to get American companies in to replace the Chinese companies winning all the contracts in Panama." Welcome to Panama by the way!! The flag burning is super, duper isolated. And I would image there are more burning effigies of Trump in the US than there are in Panama right now ;) Lets see what Senator Rubio comes back with after his visit this weekend. And like I said Senator...drinks on me Saturday night in case you dont already have any plans :)

Aloha! I appreciate your optimism! And to be honest, I alluded to that in the video...we are hearing some fairly positive things from both sides of the political aisle from our clients. Not so much from our neighbors here in the office, lol. Nobody is too thrilled about it in Panama, as one would expect. But yes...there are those who believe that the next four years could be great for Panama under the Trump administration. And those who have decided to leave the US for the same reason. Lets see! Give me a jingle when you arrive and congrats on the move. I am from Honolulu originally ;) PS, you are right. The fishing is amazing down here! Offshore and fresh water :) Cheers, Kent

Tell ‘em Kent. The Euro cars don’t use the canal and most of Asian cars arrive on the west coast and go by rail or trucks. But a reduce in China’s presence would get more USA companies in PTY but most contracts don’t pay the volume of money most contractors desire

Thanks for not getting behind US propaganda. This basically is big business in cahoots with govt attempting to monopolize business contracts using fear, bullying, coercion, etc. Its the same old American playbook. Panama as a sovereign nation, in theory is allowed to do business with whoever they want. The world is tired of American empire. I can see a pullback coming where the US plays a more dominant role in the Western Hemisphere and less so in the rest of the world. It cant afford 900 military bases worldwide anymore. Its naval carrier groups are obsolete with the advent of hypersonic missiles. The Houthis have shown the world that American naval power is vulnerable. Shifting spheres of influence happening. Personally, Im considering Panama for retirement regardless. The US will not allow it to become a failed state.

Kent here. Love the direction this comment went in. And I think you are right: This is manifest destiny to a tee. Not always fair, very rarely diplomatic, but if I had my choice Id rather be on Team USA than Team China :) This policy doesn't always go so great for the little guys like Panama
@baldqueen276212 сағат бұрын
Panama should run the Panama Canal. It seems the USA going back on their word would have global implications for international deals with b9other countries if they cannot be trusted to follow through on treaties and contracts with open honesty in negotiations. If you don't want to pay the toll, then go around. Stealing the toll road is simply criminal. Oh yeah... nevermind.
@PanamaequityRealEstate9 минут бұрын
lol, love how you ended that one. I mean...I dont think Panama "stole" the Canal from the US. But maybe you mean the US stole the Canal from France? Or the US stole the land from Colombia to make it Panama? Jajajaja. Doesnt seem like the world (or the US Senate) are too keen on the idea of taking over the Panama Canal at this stage. Honestly, it even felt like a few of the expert witnesses were being asked to grasp for straws during their testimony. Lets see how it plays out. Thanks for watching :) -Kent

There is no bridge in the Darien. Never will be. They are still in talks to build a electrical connection between Panama and Colombia but that's far off too. There are 3 bridges in Panama with a 4th in construction. The Bridge of the Americas and Centenario are the two on the Pacific side. And then there's the Atlantic bridge on the other side of the Canal. This 4th one is going between the two existing bridges near the City and there are actually a handful of companies doing work including the Chinese + The Koreans and several European consortiums doing the tunnel under the bridge for the Metro extension. All going full steam ahead by the way

Great Video! Ruben keeps us updated and does a great job! Our condo is rented in Costa Del Este and we are still moving forward with a new construction. Real estate will always have it's up and downs. Here in Lexington, KY we are slow, but the busy Spring market is just around the corner. Our issue is little to no inventory. Builders aren't building spec homes and we are limited on land to develop due to our beautiful horse farms. We are still somewhat in a sellers market. Mainly due to low inventory. No one wants to come off 2,3,4% interest rates and go to a 7%. Best rate I can find today is 15 yr at 5.75% which is lowest we've seen in awhile.

Bullshit. How many bases or military personal from any foreign country are within the territory? How many Chinese owned farmland are within American territory and how do they NOT represent a foreign threat to you? But 2 ports in another country are a national threat to you? 😂 You're justifying intervention to a sovereign country because of paranoia and megalomania from an Imperialist political party and repeating everything Trump says without critical thinking. We are NEUTRAL, having economic ties with one of YOUR main commercial partners (same as Australia, Japan, The European Union, Canada, etc.) does not constitute a breach to that neutrality.

Kent here. Love the comment actually and would appreciate more of your thoughts on the matter. Hopefully you noticed my comment about "99% of all Chinese companies are basically the Chinese government." But as far as them "taking over easily," I think the US has been playing that game right back at the Chinese (like the old Spy vs Spy cartoons) right here in our backyard of Panama. And if you asked 99% of Panamanian government officials who they would rather be in bed with it would be USA all day long. So I would argue that the loyalty to the US is there. Can you help me understand your Chile comment? I had to google it and see that the Chinese (as they love to do and have been doing for 15+ years) provided a bunch of cheap money to come in and build infrastructure like power gen, roads, etc. By-the-book Belt and Road initiative. Cant say Im "for it" but...Know Thy Enemy, right? PS, as an American living abroad THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

❤ ya brother. The hot takes have to do with a strategic water way and a treaty. I read the Treaty and it is clear that China is not Panamá and they are an enemy of the party of the Treaty. There's two remedies. Besides Panamenos should work the ports don't you think the people should benefit and not another country?
@PanamaequityRealEstate15 сағат бұрын
Panamenos are working the ports my friend! Who do you think works for Hutchinson? 5,000 people, most of whom are locals. I think that even Kontorovich's testimony confirmed that there is no violation. I think he said "there could be one."

@@pklemets "Only the Republic of Panama shall operate the Canal and maintain military forces, defense sites, and military installations within its national territory. However, in recognition of the significant contributions by both the United States and Panama to the Canal's construction, operation, maintenance, and defense, vessels of war and auxiliary vessels from both nations are entitled to transit the Canal expeditiously, regardless of their internal operation, means of propulsion, origin, destination, armament, or cargo." Do you know the difference between a Port and a WHOLE Canal? 🤔 Ports working within the Canal does not have the same administration as the WHOLE Canal. Do you got any evidence that the Administration of the Canal is run by Chinese officials or military personnel? Because, as Kent just stated, there are at least 5k local Panamanians working within the ports, not PPC personnel.
