I think that's how most games start. Before a project is greenlit, it would be first pitched to investors on how the game would work and feel like. I believe when the new Norse God of War was revealed, they haven't worked on most of the game yet. The problem is that most of these game startups could scale up after the pitch. Like Star Citizen already surpassed GTAV's development cost at least a few times already, even if it was the most expensive game at its time. Seems they're irresponsible in hsndling their money.

I don’t know where the best place is to start, as far as the best, slow burn and learn tutorial is
@FirstCrimsonКүн бұрын
There's no best tutorial and/or learning path for one person, everybody will have different strengths in terms of their method of learning- I'd say the best start (at least for me) is to just get in the engine and just mess around with some stuff and slowly ease your way into it, start up a tiny project maybe trying to recreate something from a game and do your best to not follow tutorials 1-1 but instead experiment with things yourself

I feel like our brains have a nasty habit of filling in the blanks, and takes a choreographed trailer as a showcase of all the things they could be doing right now. In fact, the less that's honestly shown, the more potential to just assume that there's a whole game that's going to be this fun and do all this cool stuff. Videos like this are useful in showing both how easy it is to fake something cinematic but shallow, but also how we need to be more mindful of how scripted/staged trailers are often a game putting its best foot forward, not was the average experience will be like.

Im 2 minutes in solution sounds like a.i. heres 1 it sounds like you want: A.I. 3 states 1. Normal routine probably a patrol state. 2. Heres sound should probably move patrol state to where sound is. 3. Combat State afterseeing player. I suck with a.i. in unreal but im guessing 2 should be some type of move to sound location. If see player enter combat else move to normal location resume normal routine.

I like the excited reaction from people after seeing a generic character model walk in an empty city for 30 seconds. Feels like it's all people still in denial after Day Before.

people don't realize just how much actual work it takes to make a game.. whatever you're imagining, multiply it by 10 and you're still low. it's no kidding a LOT of work. even for the smallest games, there are a million little things you don't think about when playing.

To be fair the technical definition of parody involves over exaggeration for comedic effect so you just because you say it's a parody doesn't mean it is and your video clearly is not a parody there's no over exaggeration or comedy it's just a gameplay trailer

No, if you’re baking by name, joining all the objects would break that altogether, plus it’s unnecessary to join the entire thing

You could theoretically scam people with 0$ spent on assets and such, there are enough sites on the internet on which you can download assetpacks for free which makes this entire scam trailer thing even more scary if you think about it.

This is legitimately what Bungie did with the original Halo 2 trailer. They even showed how fake the scene was later on, and you can still find this video online.

I'm not making any games yet. I think I'll just try to learn how to program blueprints for about 5 years. In the meantime, I will be buying animations that I believe are essential to advance the programming. When I make a game it will be as simple as possible, telling a story with text and turn-based combat as simple as possible. One person alone cannot make a triple A game and it must be a simple game but with a great script. The easiest thing would be to create the interiors cities and towns with 2d images backgrounds (like FF8) made with artificial intelligence. At a high resolution it can look like a real 3d environment. The key is to simplify.

Amazing video. Never thought about game trailers like a movie set, thanks for the insight because that explains everything about marketing nowadays. It always felt weird things like the Watch Dogs 1 trailer happening because I thought it was more like optimization, but it makes sense to focus development time on the areas where you know are going to be exposed first to the public and reel back once you realize its not feasible for a full scale game

I worked at Ubisoft 2015-2019. I helped create the fake gameplay trailer for the Division 2 with the fake players talking. I worked on the crashed plane and the water effects. I talked with some old devs and some hard worked on the FarCry3 E3 fake gameplay video. It is the video that shows FarCry 3 with far superior graphics. They told me during development, a copy build is made and this new one becomes the E3 build. Additional devs are put to work on the E3 build and they make it look better and add more effects that will never be on the game. Ubisoft did this also for Watchdogs 1, lot of people say these games got downgraded but they are wrong since the videos are completely separate builds of the game never meant to be sold. The reason Ubi doesn't do this anymore is not players getting mad but because the head guy of game development at Ubisoft was fired when all the allegations came out a few years ago. It is when the head of HR and other high level Ubisoft expects got all fired at once. Once that guy left we never did any more fake E3 builds

With this methods you just create an optimization nightmare along the development pipeline...
@FirstCrimson16 күн бұрын
Optimization nightmare? How so? Reusing textures and the meshes aren't high polycount at all, plus you could easily use LODs depending on the game to reduce overdraw if the bevels are too much.
