Thats a nice trick to know. The engine looks very nice in its new home. Cant wait to hear it run and see it move. It is a work of art.

You should always pull or at least loosen the fill plug before the drain plug. If you cant get fill plug out, you still have fluid in unit until you can find a way to get fill plug out.

Did you have any difficulties putting in the buckets? Looks like it all lines up pretty good. What's next? Thanks for sharing.

The buckets were not difficult, but it was a little time consuming to get them aligned the best I could. I've been doing the wiring which is very time consuming :). Taking way more time than I anticipated.

Love watching all your 66 rebuild videos as I too have a 66 bb convertible that needs suspension rebuild and power steering conversion, I was wondering if the new steering wheel shaft had to be shortened to use the Borgeson power steering box and how did you determine how much to shorten? Keep us informed as you progress....SUPER JOB!!
@DickShaw19 күн бұрын
Yes, the shaft will need to be shortened about 1.5". I haven't done it yet but will install it as is and see how much it needs exactly. Maybe I'll do a video - thanks for giving me the idea for this one.

Outstanding video. I have a question that you may be able to answer. My 56 TBird creeps forward when the shifter is in neutral. Any idea on how this is possible? I'll appreciate your reply. Thanks.
@DickShaw23 күн бұрын
Hmm, not sure. Is it possible that the gear shift selector needs adjustment, maybe it is not totally in neutral but halfway between there and drive.

The colour is beautiful! My favourite Corvette series. With the original 55/56 being one body style then the body that went until 62, then these. Shouldn’t that be C3? I read a book about the history of the Vette about 45 years ago, but if that was covered, I forgot.
@DickShaw23 күн бұрын
You would think so, but I guess because of the same basic frame and running gear they were all still the first generation C1. Then in 63 with radical body changes and independent rear suspension etc. a new generation was born thus the C2. Thanks for your comment.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for this video- reuniting the body to the Corvette chassis. The car is looking fantastic! Your attention to detail is phenomenal and you always “think ahead” to minimize problems for yourself. I am so impressed that you do all this work by yourself! Where did you add the new transmission fluid and how much fluid did you drain? What torque specs did you use for the transmission pan?
@DickShawАй бұрын
You add Trans fluid through the dipstick tube. The C6 holds about 8 quarts in the transmission and about 4 more in the torque converter. When draining it, you will never get it all out, so when adding the new oil, you will probably only need about 9-10 quarts. Add little by little when you are close and check it, so you don't overfill. I just tighten the pan bolts good and snug, but the spec calls for 124 in/lbs (10 ft/lbs)
@jimrains8314Ай бұрын

It’s so rewarding to do this kind of restoration stuff. It’s not completed and makes a big difference in the outcome overall. This was fun to watch and I really love the new horn button 👍🏻 curious why you didn’t paint the housing along with the other parts before you assembled them?
@DickShawАй бұрын
Thanks for watching! I didn't paint the long column tube because it was already powder coated. I waited to paint the other parts until after assembly because I didn't want to take a chance of scratching them during assembly.
@S2NAZАй бұрын
@@DickShaw I see that now, gloss black. I thought you might paint those in a wrinkle flat finish. Don’t go away Dick, this is really a lot of fun to watch 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻

Hi Dick, great video..!! So, this 4180 Motorcraft/Holley Emission friendly carb is too much of a headache. Four air mixture screws? Three check balls? Do you know of a direct replacement carb that would work? Edelbrock 1403? Holley 4160? I need something with throttle linkage that doesn't drop below the throttle plate. I was thinking the boxy edelbrock carbs. I have a 1987 RV with a 460, and there is no room to get in there and adjust air mixture screws or anything. There's about 2 cubic feet of space in the engine bay to work on the carb. I need a carb I can slap on, and it basically adjusts itself. I have access to the top front of carb, and back, but not like I would if it was on an open bay Ford pickup. Thanks for your time.
@DickShawАй бұрын
Yes, an RV can be difficult to work on because of the limited space. I would think either of the two carbs you mention would work well. I have used both brands on various applications with good results.

The only '65 steering wheels I can find are cracked examples on eBay, so this video is perfect for what I need. Some Japanese repairs use a gold bonding compound, do you reckon a silver epoxy/filler would look good? Or tacky?
@DickShawАй бұрын
I guess it depends on what color the wheel is, but if you are going to repaint the wheel then it doesn't matter.
@HotRodReverendАй бұрын
Never seen anyone use fiberglass but that repair looks pretty good. I used PC7 epoxy on my 56 Ford steering wheel. Looked great when finished. The only problem I have after several years of weekly use is that new cracks are forming on the Bakelite. I do not believe any company makes a repop steering wheel for 55-57 Fords.
