"We have ignition"! Congratulations Dick, on the first start of the LS1 in your Corvette project. It sounds great! Now I can't wait to see you take your first drive in the car. I know there are a lot of little details that need to be attended to before that happens, but this video is a big milestone in your project.

As easy as it is to pull the engine on these cars, i think that would be my first step. It would also be a great time to change the front brake line to the passenger side. Great video thank you for your time and for sharing.

Outstanding series - thank you so much for the effort. This is one of THE BEST rebuild series I've seen. No distracting music. Good camera views. Good summary of important numbers and steps as you did it. The comments and views don't do you justice for the quality of the work, and the value you have shared. Thank you!

Dick what is that tool called that you are using at 26:20 to cut the material out over the screw holes?
@DickShaw25 күн бұрын
Hello, Thanks for watching! The tool is just a hole deburring tool that I have had forever. I have a set of them in different sizes. I searched online and could not find any like it so perhaps they are not available anymore. You could use an Exacto knife to trim out the material I believe.
@timinjapan383626 күн бұрын
Great job, love all of the explanation you do. Good hands on learners video. 1. Please get a clip on mike. It's hard to hear sometimes. 2. Why didn't you take off the original skin before putting on the replacement?
@DickShaw26 күн бұрын
Sorry about the sound quality. The original skins are bonded to the foam which would pull apart if you tried to remove the skin.

Dick, I have a question about your #2 differential rebuild. What are the tolerances for axil end play? Mine is .050. Thanks
@DickShaw25 күн бұрын
I'm not sure there is a tolerance listed anywhere from GM but I would say that .050 is probably near the allowable limit. If you plan to drive the car a lot, you might want to replace the axles. If it will be just an occasional driver like most old classics then you should be good for quite awhile. It is my understanding that the tips of the axles is what wears as they ride on the pin in the center of the differential.
@augiedogie8822 күн бұрын
@@DickShaw Thanks for answering my question. I had the same thoughts as you and the diff. was done by a local shop apparently he said hold the input "driveshaft" side and check the backlash is what matters but then I notice the axels both moved .050 in and out. and like you said the tips could wear against the center pin. 👍

Excellent video, doing this now on my '94. You're challenging me to even go further, lol. Btw, are those Z cars in your shop? I'm a huge Zcar guy. I just subscribed, scrolled through your videos, yes! ZCar, awesome, love it. Suggestion, if theres not one already, I'll look further, do a walk around your shop, maybe a little history. You know us car guys love an awesome shop.

Other videos say that I need to make sure each screw goes into the exact location for both pan and filter? Is that correct?
@DickShawАй бұрын
No it is not. If the bolt is the same size and length as the others, then obviously they are interchangeable. You can take note of them as you remove them and if you see any difference in some, then put back accordingly. Most likely the filter bolts will be different than the pan bolts.
@lorikrayer9313Ай бұрын
Yea I thought all the bolts would be the exact same. I guess I’ll just keep an eye on it in case. Did you let the gasket maker dry before putting it on? The first layer?

what size wheels and tires did you use on your car? they are ATV wheels?
@DickShaw28 күн бұрын
Hello, sorry for the delay. The tire size is 4.80 -8 (8" diameter wheels). This is a popular size for wagons, carts, wheelbarrows, etc. Do a search on 4.80-8 tires and you will see many options. The rear knobby tires are Carlisle brand, but I don't remember what the fronts were. I have sold it. I think you can get this size at Harbor Freight. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Does this kit replace the traverse leaf spring rear suspension? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm brand new to C2 Corvette and just started research for a potential rebuild project. Is it worth the expense versus just replacing all the worn parts on the original suspension?
@DickShawАй бұрын
Yes, it replaces the rear transverse spring, and in my opinion it is well worth it. You will have a better ride and better handling. Plus, you will have full adjustability of the ride height.
@CharlesM-hq6cvАй бұрын
Thanks… you made that look fairly straightforward..

I appreciate your help. we did the same thing with Ridetech trailing arms. Dummies had you putting the studs in the trailing arms we put it together and couldn't get to the nuts. I was bale to remove the parking brake and get the nuts on that way, was tough to put the shoes back on though

You should always pull or at least loosen the fill plug before the drain plug. If you cant get fill plug out, you still have fluid in unit until you can find a way to get fill plug out.

Did you have any difficulties putting in the buckets? Looks like it all lines up pretty good. What's next? Thanks for sharing.
@DickShaw2 ай бұрын
The buckets were not difficult, but it was a little time consuming to get them aligned the best I could. I've been doing the wiring which is very time consuming :). Taking way more time than I anticipated.
