I don't think it's super likely that Dante is dead. Whenever he dies in frontiers, he turns into a ghost, lending into the fact that he is essentially immortal. I think the more likely explanation is that Dante lended Anya the artifact that allowed him to revive after death, most likely being bound to his soul, it would allow her to summon his soul for a little extra help in combat. I think Dante isn't really dead, for the time being, he has just lost his physical form. Most likely, (after possibly being turned into a vampire) his body is being stored somewhere until he needs to come back again.
