They did do grappling pre ww though actually it was popular then it died out. Grappling has always been around they also had horse hair mats lol

I like most of what you say but you have a couple of incorrect believes about Judo particualt, the distintion between Judo and Japanese Jujitsu (the Samurai art).

I wouldn't put it that way. All the Master level guys have that outspoken attitude. It seems like you're not very experienced in JiuJitsu circles if you're just now making that observation. lol.

Wow for this video being from 2015-16 I thought it was made today in 2022. It is so well put together and touching on relevant points in Ju Jitsu today. Amazing. Thanks Chris.

He's so on point and gives such great advice on life in general. Environment definitely trumps Will. And it explains why good people slip in their lives and get into substance abuse or a criminal lifestyle when this is what surrounds them. What a great lecture on so many levels, from the evolving philosophy and history of BJJ to giving such great life advice.

He mentions the original 18 techniques... any ideas of what they were / are?

all i want to do is learn “warrior” BJJ. I give absolute zero fucks about the sport. I don’t give a shit about what move is worth how many points and my coach’s know that. Which is why they’ve stopped asking me.

The type of ground grappling you see in BJJ today was also seen prior to WwiI in the Kosen tournaments in Japan. The Tatami mats they used were made made from rice straw.

There is no mention of upkicks from the bottom of guard. Hmmmm... I thought that was an old-school move. Kinda like what Renzo did to Oleg.

The dude at 18:00 just sitting there assuming the position forever. Also, one of the "keep it honest" things I've always done is never hold the triangle or guard when someone picks me up. Let it go and keep going, don't get slammed doing stupid stuff.
