@@ifthatthenthis3797 Why should I have to do MMA when I can just add the strike defense back in and train Jiu-jitsu the way it was meant to be trained. I do by the way and I teach it that way. I know plenty of guys in their 60s and 70 still training BJJ this way.

@@dragonballjiujitsu for training okay because people can just hit you lightly but for competition well it would be better suited for MMA. @@ifthatthenthis3797 They are meant to be trained that way. Also you are far more likely to need empty had self defense than a gun. @@dragonballjiujitsu well I probably wouldn't train it if I got hit to be honest. And I think it's wouldn't be as popular as it is. If it became too hard core. Eh. Wrestling was first introduced in the 1896 Olympics. Greco actually. Mostly throws. No leg attacks. This was well before WW2 so his idea about no break falls in wrestling due to the mat is wrong. I would say we don’t break fall in wrestling because most of the throws involve a trapped arm. Also we are landing body on body as we throw. So what’s the point? In judo a lot of the throws the thrower remains standing. We have a lot of idols in Bjj. Make sure you don’t just believe someone because of the color of their belt.
@cdcaleo5 жыл бұрын
He's not wrong, and he knows the difference between Greco and Freestyle. Most traditional styles of folk wrestling, from Sumo to Glima to Lucha Canaria, and many more, were based on standing throws. Ground wrestling, while not unknown, was considered unpractical and left largely undeveloped until about the late 19th century. Of course, the ancient Olympic games featured a kind of freestyle wrestling with ground wrestling and what we would consider submission holds, but all in the service of a fall.
@BadWolfMMANashville5 жыл бұрын
cdcaleo thx for the reply. I don’t think you read my post. I said he was wrong on why there is no break falls in wrestling. He credited it to using a soft mat devised post WW2. The science and practicality of break falling does not apply to wrestling because in wrestling the throw ends with your opponent driving their weight on top of you. In judo you can break fall because the goal was to finish the throw while you remained standing. Hence, dispersing the energy of your own body as it hits the mat. Not your body and also the attackers.
@BadWolfMMANashville5 жыл бұрын
cdcaleo kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4W0h3mNmdunprc This match happened two days ago. Watch the throw at 3:20. break fall won’t disperse this impact.

call it jibber jabber but man its intereting. Most people doing bjj now all started well past the time where sport and lepel manipulation was already established. Its cool to hear about the old days when wed hold closed guard and if your closed guard was open it was like your whole family got raped. The game is so different now. i was a student back in those days. Quit and now started up 16 years later. The 2 stripe white belts of today play guard better than mid tier purples of 97.
