I have set up plenty of macro pads and never end up using them as having to move my arm somewhere physically away from my mouse or keyboard breaks my flow. @@rchelinewbee300

No but you can import polygon meshes as a reference and you can snap curve points to the vertices. and I have done two videos on converting a polygon mesh into nurbs surfaces one for studio license and one for indy licence.

Wow Idk how I missed this addon before but it looks really useful! I'll definitely have to experiment with it more. I noticed smooth objects like the Suzanne head subdivided 3x then low decimated looks a little better with Data Transfer: Nearest Face Interpolation used afterwards. I know you're focus is hard surface so might not be something you consider but figure I'd mention it just in case It's something you might want to experiment with :)
@takerefuge3d6 күн бұрын
Hey thank you, Yeah, obviously you can alter things to your tastes afterwards and that may work better for certain quad based objects. In alot of cases were just trying to mitigate the big shading errors as we will be rebaking normal mats but if your low poly is your high poly you want it as good as possible, I did do a tutorial on the whole process early last year and pointed out that you can try the other modes in data transfer. Maybe I can add a toggle for this in a future update.

@takerefuge3d I'm new to your channel so I'll definitely need to explore your other videos further. Played around with a few modifier settings randomly out of curiosity which is how I found those results. Had a feeling it was explored and would be different per model, but just in case I commented my findings :)
@takerefuge3d6 күн бұрын
@@Mainman0011yeah I figure most people just want to click a button and be nearly done, the default settings tend to work well with ngon meshes particularly with curved surfaces, bevels and weird transitions, but if all the normals are perpendicular to the face, the option you mentioned can have a slightly better effect. The data transfer modifier is really great I used to use it way back when to fake bevels on hard edges.

I am sorry but here the quad topology sucks, and that is way too dense for a lowpoly.
@takerefuge3d22 күн бұрын
You can refine it further, the purpose was to get a cad mesh to be all quads. Without losing form,, depending on use case. This was an example. Hand retopology is going to be the better option in alot of cases. Quad remesher and ngone pro both have operators for controlling density in different parts of your mesh
@CharlesLijt22 күн бұрын
Just use MOI to transform Nurbs based model to NGON OBJ, then re import back to blender then you good to go. MOI has way better quad or Ngon export algorithm, I normal just use Ngon. The exported model can do deformer like twist shown in the video easily without clear artifacting
@takerefuge3d22 күн бұрын
How does it handle micro fillets and the like, does it create an even topology around the fillets?
@bjornstrandberg814620 күн бұрын
It is not correct that MOI has better export, there is a big difference between Quad-CAD surfaces that does not connect in edges and Quad-remeshed surfaces where the loops follow the form. Try putting a Subdivision Surface modifier on the Quad exported mesh from MOI and se how bad it works.

So basically the licenses are equal when it comes to designing the same type of objects with the exception to more steps are required for an indie license to perfect the surface. Yeah I guess I'll buy the Indie and save $150. I'm patient and can mentally picture where to insert extra curves and pinch them.
@takerefuge3d24 күн бұрын
I think depending on your use case you can get more out of xnurbs as in some cases you might get better quality surfaces and blends quicker, but in alot of cases it may not be even relevant. I started with the Indy license and upgraded as I saw the use of having the extra tools, either way it's a steal compared to other CAD solutions.

@takerefuge3dАй бұрын
For a model like this it is absolutely possible. However with more complex hard surface models you'll run into issues in blender that require quite time consuming clean up as you go along, for me this is really painful. I think of plasticity almost as a really over powered hard surface modelling plugin for blender, even though it's standalone software.

@@alkeryn1700absolutely, I think there is plenty of parametric cad software that from what I can tell works a charm, plasticities charm is in its simplicity and speed of iteration. It's not for everyone but I learned modeling in blender which can be parametric or destructive and I always found destructive modeling to be more satisfying. I think if I was trying to design things for physical use rather than games then the benefits of a heavier software package would be more obvious to me.

Stl is a polygon format plasticity is nurbs if you want to make edits in Plasticity you need To convert it to a format that plasticity understands, or if you have the studio license you can just export as igs with the igs exporter for blender which is a paid add on that I also did a video on

@@musakoca2684ok so your new. Depending on the changes you want to make, you should Look into blender as it's free. It has tool sets for "retopology", which is recreating the mesh so it's easy to work with, it's much easier to work with quad based topology than triangles in the stl, this is a little time consuming to do and to learn, but it will be a sufficient solution, also if you want to dive a little deeper it also has sculpting tools. Hi, can i add 3d scanned objects to plasticty and make changes to them?
@takerefuge3dАй бұрын
You can import an obj or stl to plasticity as a reference. But to make changes you will need to reverse engineer the model from polygons to nurbs here is a video I did on that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4O7e3Ssh7Cof5osi=vOA3FuMpxZOhbba5 This might be limited depending on the object and you may need to remesh it first to get anything decent.
@musakoca2684Ай бұрын
@@takerefuge3d hi again, what you mean with '' as a referece '' , for ex; i scaned shoe with 3d scanner and import stl. it directly to plasticty right? And then what can i change its height ? Or other changes with its desing (not hi engineer grade detail chages, it can have more tolerance then engineer grade parts tolerances)
@takerefuge3dАй бұрын
@musakoca2684 you can't directly edit an stl in Plasticity as stl is a polygon bared model, made up of a wire frame, and plasticity models are NURBS models that are based on a mathematical. By reference I mean you can import the stl to use as a guide for rebuilding a new model. If you want to directly edit the stl you're better off using blender
