Every year I ask myself one thing... "When will it be released?" and I know there's only one right answer and that's Soon™ Nevertheless, I hope that he takes as much time as he really needs. It shouldn't just look nice, I also want pleasant gameplay and enough content that offers variety so that you don't know everything after 1-2 hours of gameplay and everything gets monotonous very quickly.

So will guns be mostly useless in the game due to the shields? If projectiles aren't useful and lasgun turn off that makes it seem like investing in guns would be a waste. Sucks because I was hoping to be a sniper. I'm not really familiar with Dune lore, but I am kind of wondering if I will be into it. I like to be an assassin or Mech-based engineer in games. The dragonfly looking robot caught my attention, but I really want to see what my options are in building a character before I invest in the game. The type I can build will decide if I play it or not more than anything.

also was there a way to customize the look of the Lords? if there was i missed that part but it would be cool to even maybe earn heraldry to embroider on your Lord's cloak as you accrue accolades through a playthrough or previous playthroughs.

I was lucky enough to get a Manor Lords pre-release key from the awesome Hooded Horse! So, many thanks to them! As someone who doesn't usually play City Builder style games, this game has taken me by surprise. Greg at Slavic Studio's is killing it. Hope you enjoyed my first impressions of the game so far, I'm looking forward to playing more!

i would scream to on how much of a mistake that would be if they released it now it would be complete garbage considering there no way they could be done .... really wish people would stop rushing games paying 100$ for a half finished game is bullshit

PR for the Dune franchise is a stretch, but like i said in the beginning, they're definitely riding the IP while they can!

Excellent video, sir! Thanks for covering this so well. As a long time Dune fan, I was curious about the game... and this certainly whetted my appetite for seeing how this game goes! As an aside, SW:G remains the greatest tragedy of the MMORPG industry. So much huge potential in it (pre-NGE) wasted by a team making so many bad decisions!

SWG was one of the best MMO games ever made. They could literally make the same game set in the Dune universe, and it would be sick.

It certainly was my friend. Doesn't look like we'll get that level of inspiration in Dune, but looks like we'll be getting some fine nods to SWG from Joel in some of the games features!

In OG SWG, you didn't get skill points and put them in, you actually leveled up skills by using them. I'm not sure what they changed after that update that killed the game, as I refused to play it at that point.

Yes you are right, i worded that wrong! OG SWG for life! No post-NGE crapola for me either. You'd earn skill points by using respective abilities/weapons, then max out that part of the tree before needing a trainer to progress. Good times!

Almost every MMO that has instancing have ways to be in the same instance as friends.

They do, it just remains to be seen how jarring this might be. IE: "select instance 69 from minimap dropdown". Dunno, always feels icky to me in an MMO.

@@dtoxslab yeah it isn't entirely undeserved, but I think that's where gamers heads are at these days, and its kind of indiscriminate. Funcom has definitely had success and Conan: Exiles is pretty great now IMO, but this is also a really ambitious project. Great job presenting everything objectively!

I would really like to have the ability to save customizations for ships as blueprints you can save, and then when you're needing to quickly produce ships in a fly, you can just select from the blueprints you've made instead of having to manually choose components for every new ship. That would get tedious real fast. I can also tell that they must have gotten consultation on correct radio transmissions because a lot of those radio transmissions sound like what real life Navy's would be doing, like, within a task force, or when communicating with commercial vessels.

Good point about the templates, i assumed that was probably how it worked but i dont know if Todd's confirmed that. The radio transmissions are really good and i will be making a video on those soon i think.

The bug race kind of reminds me of the Prador from the Neal Asher sci fi novels. Speaking of which....I need to finish that 3rd book.. I always thought it would be cool to have a RTS/FPS hybrid game exactly like this.

The Mining barge kind of reminds me of the Ice hauler Canterbury from The Expanse. I cannot wait for this game. I wish a demo could come out late 2024, but hey, its a game thats worth the wait right?

It definitely does, i feel like Todd references the Canterbury somewhere. Unfortunately, we're only getting Act 1 of the campaign before anything else, as part of the initial early access release! But i know what you mean. Can't wait to sink my teeth into this one!

That's fair, i guess its harder sci-fi, not fantasy-sci fi. Todd the developer regards it as more hard sci fi, so that's what i went with!

23:52 looks like their hit boxes collided, to me. You can see it better if you go back to the collision at 23:48. Not sure if either of them took any damage from the impact but, it seems, based on that clip, that ship collisions are not animated at this point.

I believe Todd mentioned recently that ship collisions won't be a thing since it requires so much bespoke animating and physics... Disappointing, but understandable. I would like to see these AI collision dodges improved a little though! Bit slow and not very immersive.

So looking forward to this! Your breakdown narrative was great as expected. Even the slightest bit of info on this game and I am hoovering it up. I heard the dev slowed down development due to some family issues so I hope this means his family is in better shape now and he’s in a good place
