Quality little documentary here, enjoyed it. What was this bundled with, a certain copy of the album? I have both the normal and the special edition, no documentary on them.

One of the greatest and most profound rock bands of all time. The ONLY major rock band to ever set music to serious, modern poetry - which is the only way to describe RJE and Wire's lyrics. James Dean Bradfield is - along with Bernard Butler and Dean DeLeo - the greatest rock guitar player to emerge out of the 90s, and a singer on par with the likes of Freddie Mercury (whom he eerily resembles vocally). Nicky Wire alone is reason enough to go see this band live - there will never be another like him. And last but not least, the music of Bradfield and Moore is up there with the Beatles as far as song writing goes.

Well the Doors of course set music to Morrison's poetry, but I just can't think of anyone else doing it, you know?

Richey is an amazing person, i say it this way because he is in his words and music, alive still. I understand, unfortunately as it has been said, "before its' time". The holy bible, really is the holy bible to me....i love the rest of the discography but Richeys mind <3

William's last words have the same affect on me as well. It has such a finality to it...as if he knows he's going to die anytime...about the third listen to it I started blubbering uncontrollably. I would say it's due to the impact of the words along with the underlying harmonic structures,...it's melancholy times 10...

yes it's richies lyrics but the tunes themselves on the album. James arrangements Seans & Nickys to probably a lesser extend is what makes it great.

Some people have claimed that the Manics only went with Richey's lyrics to try to add a USP to the marketing campaign for the album. This is complete bullshit, since there was no marketing campaign to speak of. There weren't even any singles. They didn't care if anybody bought this album - in one doc (which i recommend, Shadows&Words) James talks about how Nicky tried for months to persuade him to agree to burn the master tapes. They're all cynical morons, & don't know our Manics like we do.

@TorysApollo @alittlehorse I think it was just to draw a line under the period of his disappearance so that they could carry on. It's understandable I guess. If your best mate intentionally disappears without saying goodbye you've kinda gotta create your own closure. TBH it's so probable that he's dead that it doesn't really matter either way.

There's a lot of bullshiting going on by this journalist. The bit where she says they were hoping for his return - The Manics said around the time of EMG that if Richey turned up he wouldn't be allowed back in the band. She's making so many assumptions. Like Wire writing all the lyrics after Richey's disappearance. There were 3 songs on EMG with his lyrics and James wrote some later on. Pretty inaccurate. Nicky brilliant in this though.
