Charlton Heston was superb as John the Baptist! He performed the scene of Jesus’s baptism beautifully (with Max Von Sydow). His confrontation with King Herod (Jose Ferrer) was powerful: “I see your queen - your brother’s wife! ADULTERESS!”

MOST folks kneel and live, but once in a while, you get a person (or two) with genuine courage and integrity who are prepared to die for what they believe in. Such folks are as rare as rockin horse sh*t.

I keep coming back to this scene. So impressed with how great the acting is in this series, especially watching young Octavian. What a phenomenal actor Max Perkis is.

I'm sure Maestro Fellini took some creative liberties as a filmmaker and artist, but if Roman feasts were as surreal and unusual (to our eyes) as this, I for one would have loved to attend one!

I remember I was a middle school kid and would turn on my TV in the morning before school. And the Pay Per View channel that advertised all PPV movies was showing this clip. The lady historically laughing caused a huge impact on me. I was left both confused and amused.

Just read Jay Robinson's autobiography, THE COMEBACK. It is a dramatic example of life imitating art, with drug addiction, prison, and then a conversion to Christianity, and a comeback.

Atia is a shameless manipulator, but she is not contemptuous. Even though she is a rich aristocrat and Vorenus and Pullo are plebeian common soldiers, she doesn't disdain them. Even common soldiers can make good allies, if they have proven loyalty, battle experience and have the favor of somebody even greater than herself (Caesar). And while she is power hungry, she knows there is a limit to her power as she is a woman, so she wants allies from common soldiers to his son so he might be even more powerful some day. And anyway, she must be bored sitting in her palace most of her time. It should be some excitement to host some battle hardened soldiers in her home who experienced quite a different world far away.

Such a memorable performance,Jay Robinson really nailed the role of Caligula and most of his constant shoutings and ranting’s are so amazing. His role as Caligula is even more impressive than the other portrayals over the year and has aged well after 70 years.

HBO's "Rome" can be considered the prequel to "I, Claudius". The timeline fits quite nicely, though it's hard to see that this Octavian would turn into Brian Blessed later.
