I think the mane reason most villains are disabled is to make them look distinctive so you can remember them, also I saw disabled people a lot of the time thanks to my grandfather who goes to v.a so I saw people with no legs or part of that face

Hell yass. Found my way here searching for mistakes to learn from before I make my mockup :-D Looks like you bought the pdf version? I bought the printed version and traced all the pieces onto tissue paper because I am hella scared of cutting such a beautiful pattern and having the wrong size 😱 I see you cut out the whole piece with all sizes and then transfer using chalk paper which omfg I have never thought of :facepalm:

There are also villains who pretend to be disabled. Manipulated from Law and Order SVU and Inert Dwarf from Law and Order Criminal Intent come to mind. There are also a number of villains with psychiatric disabilities.

This is by FAR my favorite period of fashion. Just so elegant in design and the introduction of elements of mens' fashion made the most unique hybridization. Also, it's absolute perfect for making clothes today by hand, since it requires minimal amounts of materials haha Plus, it's so dang COMFY

My daughter gave me this big bluky swester. I hated it. So I took it a part and reused the yarn to make something else with the yarn. I was taught at an early age to use what you have. My mom was born right at the beginning of the Great Depression.

My very first upcycle was using a box pleated skirt I didn't really like so I took it a part and made a long sleeve shirt out of it. I worn it more as a shirt than I ever did as the skirt. I was in my second year of high school them. I am 74 now.

I love avatar and I didn't realize Quaritch was the only notable character with visible scarring.. at all basically. Wow. Edit: I'd like to add that I'm not really including the comics and games and I haven't watched way of water YET but from what I've seen there isn't any Also note on Vader! His suit is designed to make his life miserable and limit him! Also I don't typically do scars for halloween but I've never seen it as being spooky I've always seen it as dressing up for fun, multiple years in a row i was this weird whimsical purple/deer/fairy/creature/sugarplumfairy/thing Yet another also, you missed the villain in the second httyd movie, plus also Viggo in Dragons: Race To The Edge

My Memaw told me stories of painting a line down the back of their legs during the depression. When they did wear stockings it became a game to count the amount of rips, whoever had the most was the winner.

My parents lived it!! They suffered during that war. It's not something to take lightly. They were bombed and adult clothes were made into kids clothes. NO luxury. My mother continues to live like she is poor because that is how she was brought up.She always commented how wasteful Americans are not realizing that the UK is the same as the US is nowl. The war is something that my parents suffered throughout their lives. Both of my grandmothers were expert seamstresses.

This was fascinating! Well done. You covered a great amount of material in a short amount of time. I love the idea of slow fashion. I don’t know how to re purpose clothes into new clothes but I do use clothing for quilts and blankets and various sewing projects. This was/is a great video!!!🎉

I took one of those cotton towels like dresses that was way big on me. Cut it in half, keeping the pocket and some crochet ties, I have an apron. Still have the other half I haven’t decided yet. Turned an old stained, but clean, shirt into a pad; machine washable.

When I was a child in the 60’s, my family slept on mended sheets inherited from my great great grandmother. She had been born during the American civil war and never threw anything away. Those were rough old sheets that wore like iron. I still have her floor length grey and white ticking kitchen apron.

I’ve always patched and repaired our clothing. Jeans always seem to wear out first at the crotch. I patch them using thread that matches the color of faded jeans and you can barely see it.

Some of the repair stitches reminds me of older clothing that my mom had repaired when she was a young teacher during WWII. I may have one or two pieces left. And I was a member of the Old Salem Costume Committie when I worked fro them as a Salem Interpreter many years ago. It was a lot of fun and I loved it.

I'm here because I just watched The Dig and absolutely fell in love with the clothes (Mrs. Pretty's much more than Peggy Piggott's, although that could simply be about my age - 40s - and no longer liking the younger styles as much). I LOVED that long linen jacket she wears in so many scenes, and would love to find a version for myself. Also that first outfit we see her in with the pants you compare to jodhpurs - are those tucked into socks or cropped? I can't tell and, again, would love to find an iteration for myself. Also love all the knits, cardis etc. and in my googling discovered that quite a few of the blouses were sourced from Margaret Howell, which is a current brand and. yes, has a lot of boxy cut tops. And the straw hat! I'd kill for one and you named it ('cloche') so now i have something to google for - thank you!

Found this 2 years later ,my Mum born in 1926 in a smaller city still had to share a wedding dress in 1951 her sister wore it the year before and there simply was enough money or fabric but all pictures of both sisters show such style throughout the war .

The coupons the british ladies sent to then Princess Elizabeth were also sent back for another reason. The monarchy does not accept gifts. A practice that still applies today. Hence why the coupons were mailed back.

I think you're having troubles understanding symbolic representation and that's coloring your view on the topic. The eye patch is a reference to the Egyptian God Seth and his struggle with Horus (A good vs evil story). An eye patch symbolically represents willful blindness which is an important element that separates the villain from a hero. It's a metaphor. I'd suggest taking a class on semiotics or reading a book on symbolism or a book on character design.

I think you haven't lived with the discrimination of a disability and that takes priority over symbolism.
@jeremiahnoar7504
@jeremiahnoar7504 Жыл бұрын
@@SewBiased I like pointing out discrimination whenever I see it as most of my family ranges from neuro divergent to severely disabled. But our brains have recognized certain symbols since the beginning of story telling. Since that's unchangeable, isn't it better to realize that there are plenty of hero's too who are disabled as well? Luke Skywalker is an amputee for example (there's actually a ton of hero's that are disabled in someway). Why focus on just the villains?
