That looks like a nice challenge. Also, 11 Nov is the French remember Day for WW1, and 8th of May it's our VD celebration for WW2, so the challenge will go from the celebration of the end of the 1st World war to the end of the second one. Would it be a coincidence? I don't think so.

I don't know if this helps, but (and before I go on, I'm British) my grandmother waxed poetical about how much she loved the paper curtains she would get during the war, so I guess you'd buy those and cut into your curtains too. Incidentally, my grandmother was a very elegant lady who would not have bought 'tatt'!

Us plus sizers will struggle a LOT with this for one main reason. Altho the absolute KEY to this being successful in terms of fabric, is to allow yourself to break the rules about nap etc. I am famous for managing to squeeze a full garment out of at least 1/3 less than recommendations or even what might seem possible on the face of it. Given Im a size 24 in Australian sizing (46" waist,, and large bust and 5' 10") this is often a BIG issue. But I will take you up on the challenge! However one detail in the requirements that is a LITTLE discrimatory - is "No more than 4 yards of stitching". Being very plus size, this wont work, and wont be possible given size and height. One front panel of the skirt, with 2 darts, on a CF pleat on the fold, side seams, even with no pockets, but a waist of 46" and hem...there is on my calculation a bit more than 4 yards. I have already made one such houndstooth woolen skirt with an antique remenant - still with the original 1950's imperial price tag. So, im wondeirng if this can be strethched a little...

Absolutely, just in case it wasn't clear in the post with all the rules, all of these are based on a UK size 12 or US size 10. If you're larger or smaller, you should absolutely adjust accordingly. This is meant to be as size inclusive as possible.

@@SewBiased Oh - ok thx...I somehow didnt get that point. When ever i make anything 1940's I do follow rationing rules as per Australia, which were not as harsh. Otherwise..theyre not 40's fashion..eh? LOL

I love this! I don’t know if I will finish a garment in time (garment sewing beginner and fitting is hard), but this is the time period I am most inspired by. The creativity and ingenuity that came out of this time are incredible.

Mending still counts, and it doesn't have to bear full garment

I'm so excited to be part of this challenge! I know I have one 1940s pattern that I'll be working on for sure. I'm not sure if my 30s pattern that was supposed to be done first will fit the bill, but we shall sew? see? Anyhoo, this is gonna be AWESOME. Your disclaimer had me LOL.
