Capt Mark, is there any rhyme or reason with the tides and trolling for striped bass? Went trolling yesterday in LI Sound. Had a 45 minute period when the bass were hitting and then the whole bite shut down. Was wondering what part of the tide is best? Thank you

I find they eat as long as the tide moves.. When you see them on the machine up in the column, they are up there to feed and the best time to score on the troll.. If they are tight to the bottom it gets complicated lol.. that's when you have to drop a flutter or jig on their head. Trolling is a lot easier because you cover multiple fish..

So last season up here at block we were really killing the bass trolling, mostly 9er rigs ect. I really wanted to catch using my flutter spoons so I switched over. I couldn’t catch anything, I did have a big bass following it to the boat but that’s it. So with all the success I’m seeing it’s obviously was something I was doing wrong. So question one is the wind and tide was pushing me pretty good and my line was pushing out and not down as much, the second was I was just using on my regular penn bait runner set up. Maybe I was jigging too fast I’m not sure but could either of those things be the problem? I’m gonna go back at it again this season so I’m not quitting.
