Probably would have gotten better results with the Dtechs had they just slowed down the rotating speed just a little bit in order to get the lighting effects.

I used several of them and the one I liked the best was the Code 3 SD with the Federal Twin Sonic coming in 2nd. Used the Smith and Wesson too but didn't care for it. Obvious they didn't get a cop to help with the design for those rectangular headlight bulbs took up unnecessary space that could've been used to spread out the rotators and better position the mirrors which I would've put a diamond shaped one in between and would not have offset them.

Random question: on the back of the SMC Safety Swing Arm, there are three wires, a red, a white, and a blue. How would I go about wiring one to a simple two position (on off) switch. Red is Hot, white is? And blue is? I have the SMC with Strobe flashers.
@AdamsLights2 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly, the white is the neutral, the red extends the arm, and the blue retracts the arm.

@@AdamsLights do they still use them any there? I saw an ambulance with xenon strobes a month ago and was shocked, because that’s the first time I’ve seen them on an emergency vehicle in 8 years or so. They’re super bright too even with the red filter, maybe even brighter than LED, it just doesn’t seem to send the light as physically far, for some reason. And can you still find xenon strobes online or anything?

How come it makes that chirping noise as the strobes flash?
@AdamsLights5 ай бұрын
It's actually the capacitor charging up, right before it releases the power load to activate the light. After the light flashes, the capacitor re-charges, and thus, the constant chirping sound you hear.
@IHeartAGM5 ай бұрын
How come the "wig-wag lights" one makes a chirping noise as the lights flash?
@AdamsLights5 ай бұрын
I answered this in your other comment, but that only happens with strobe lights, due to their capacitors charging. Incandescent and LED lights do not operate that way, which is why the don't make a noise.

Steady now, way too much coffee. I picked up two bars some time ago, and I thought they were both the same. I just spent a few days working on one of them, a Vector bar. I needed a couple of bulbs so I went out to my shop and climbed into the rafters to rob a couple off the other bar. I pulled the cover off the end pod and noticed it was a smart pod. I excitedly jumped up to the next step on the ladder so I could see the label. It's a vision bar. Oh boy. When I pull this down on Monday I think I'm gonna have some questions.

Okay just shaky. So I pulled the vision bar down. Bad news. The data cable was cut, and all the wires were stripped. I would bet that some moron has applied 12 volts to every data lead. I don't have anything to control this bar, so I won't be able to check it out any time soon. Enjoyed your video. Thanks.

Thanks for watching! Honestly, it really depends on the bar. The ones that were more common and are easily found, go for cheap.... sometimes you can even find them for free. A whole lot of nostalgia for me in the Federal Signal Twin Sonic bars. I worked at Federal Sign and Signal in Blue Island, IL, during the summer of 1975. The country was coming out of the oil shortage of 1974 and I spent most of my time filling backorders for replacement lenses (acrylic and polycarbonate) as they became available in quantity again. My free time was spent watching the repairmen working on broken light bars, gumdrop lights and mechanical sirens.
