slope glitch, which is a glitch that exists in all the Genesis Sonic games. I don't understand the full workings of it in detail, but the basic principle of it is that you initiate it by unloading an object while standing on it, which is what happens with the moving platform when i look up. The effect of the glitch is that Sonic maintains the angle of the last slope he stood on, while ignoring much of the vertical level collision. In order to maintain it here (because obviously the platform doesn't stay unloaded), you you have move away very quickly after unloading the platform, which you do via a fast acceleration through turning around and then jumping, and then you need to get another jump the instant you land on the slope

This particular variant of the skip is very tight, it works by using a jump that is as short as possible to get from the track onto the building (notice my short A press on that jump) to ensure I use up as little hover frames as possible. I then spindash off the side of the wall and make use of the hover frames mid-air by pausing the game and unpausing with pressing and holding A, which gives me all my remaining hoverframes. You still need really good speed and angle to make it over though so it takes a lot of practice. If you're just looking to learn the speedrun, the more conventional strat is to go to the very top of the building, reset your hover frames by doing a very short jump, and then do a spindash hover from the edge of the roof. A spindash hover is done by charging a spindash, pressing A, and releasing the spindash while still holding A. This gives Sonic a lot of horizontal distance without losing height. With this strat you still need to make sure you have a straight angle so you don't lose speed and distance mid-air, but it's much more lenient and easy to set up. @@bagofgaming5610 when you play it casually you're probably in the auto camera setting, while the speedrun is done in free cam. the camera angle is very different in auto and iirc it looks less jarring there, so that might be what you remember

yes you have to land first, as when the cart ejects you, you don't have access to the homing attack

yes, but the Steam version is a very clunky port and has no support for most of the speedrun community tools. I'd recommend going to the SADX speedrunning Discord in the description and asking there on how to get the best game setup
