I wish you well with your goals, but as an old man, let me tell you something that I've learned from life. When a bunch of people set a goal for their organization to achieve, the truth is quite frequently sacrificed to achieve that goal. This obviously happens in politics, but it pretty much happens in all independent organizations. This includes the organizations trying to "save the world" from climate change. The truth as I know it is that we do not know what the future of the earth's climate is, and we do not know to what extent man is effecting it. Our knowledge of climate science is just not accurate enough to say. However, the "save the world" organizations will say whatever they can to convince people they know the answers. When I was growing up in the 1960's and 70's, there were dire warnings that the earth would be a place of catastrophic runaway heating by the early 2000's. Many people came to believe that this was true. Humans didn't slow their productions of greenhouse gasses, but actually exceeded the levels that these models used. Obviously the runaway heating didn't happen. If the models from the 1960's are adjusted to actually match the actual data, absolutely no thermal runaway is predicted. No man made climate catastrophe. Understand that the "catastrophe" of these models was not an accurate prediction, but the prediction did cause people to believe in a man made climate catastrophe. Rather than admitting that the "catastrophe" wasn't an accurate predictions, instead the models were changed and "fixed" to include more factors that do two things to the model: - match the data from prior to 2020 - predict the catastrophic climate change now around 2050 The models are no longer viewed as "correct" unless they predict the catastrophe that people have come to believe. The belief is what's true and the science isn't right unless it predicts that belief. Just like religious people not believing science unless it agrees with their religious beliefs. We don't know the truth, but the "save the earth" organizations are achieving their goal of making people believe that the earth needs to be save. Fair winds and following seas.

What about simply plugging the hole in the chain locker ? The added weight won’t upset the CG that much and it will save you the expense of trucking the sailboat all the way back to your home port! Use putty on the seems of the chain locker door. Trucking the boat back seems counterintuitive to what you’re trying to accomplish.
@ellainthearctic
@ellainthearctic Ай бұрын
@@vanwest4198 unfortunately the anchor locker is so large and deep that to allow it to flood and stay full of water would cause Yeva to be incredibly bow-heavy, and I am too worried about how that would affect her stability and handling to take that risk - especially in the rough North Sea winter waters that sit between Inverness and Portsmouth. Her freeboard is only just over a metre above the water as it is, let alone with all the additional weight that would add to the bow. Putting her on a truck was not an easy decision to make at all, and I have been very upset about it, believe me. But it is the safest option for both my vessel and myself, and my responsibility to keep making the safest decisions - despite how hard they can be. She’ll get to the shipyard tomorrow morning, and I hope to get the issue resolved in November and be back sailing before Christmas. Thanks for following along and commenting. All the best to you!

🤣🤣🤣🤣Unprecedented. Proof of weather! .... I worked in the north Atlantic for 20 years offshore I can assure you many storms rolling in are more than common. Nonsense. I have no question of your ability to sail and what you have done and yes you have nothing to be upset about, you did really well. Its a great challenge to attempt for that you deserve praise but not for the climate nonsense.
@ellainthearctic
@ellainthearctic Ай бұрын
@@Corkedit “As of October 6, nine hurricanes have developed in the Atlantic compared to the 1991-2020 average of 5.5.” (…) NASA themselves have described the October hurricanes as “unusually active” and confirmed this is the first known hurricane season to see 3 hurricanes simultaneously present in the basin after September. This is not the same as common bad winter weather that we’re used to seeing every year in the North Atlantic. Thank you for your kind words about my sailing - but the reason I do what I do is to raise awareness about climate change, and the challenges we are already facing from it and will continue to face as they escalate. They go hand in hand and I will continue to discuss climate change throughout my videos. All the best to you ☺️ earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/153426/three-storms-churn-in-an-active-atlantic#:~:text=The%20hurricane%20season%2C%20which%20started,1991%2D2020%20average%20of%205.5.

You did well to sail to Svalbard and back and your plan to donate your boat is very commendable. I don't think the increasing world population is wholly responsible for climate change although we must be partly to blame . Perhaps there's a tipping point when the world can't cope any more. While we use single use plastics , (here in Wales no longer) we only add to changes in the world and it's inhabitants. Our clothing, fleeces particularly, create micro plastics. Our Dacron sails, and waterproofs and the boats themselves. I think we can all help (I've picked up plastic on the coast for years) but punishing the population with increased fuel costs and electricity much more expensive than otber countries just to show this country is decreasing oil production isn't the way to go. We then import oil and gas from the rest of the world causing more oil usage in transportation. Good luck with your future projects.

There's never much sailing done in the arctic. It's almost all diesel powered, almost always on a schedule, and always ok to burn along because we're not the big bad guys. That's someone else.

@@smokingkippers1173 I’ve been very fortunate to be able to sail almost all summer, covering less than 1/3 of distance traveled under engine to date. Unfortunately this really was the only opportunity to cross the North Sea any time soon, and with my 90 days in Europe running low, I had to leave Norway. I’ll now be waiting in Shetland until the weather is right to sail again instead of motoring towards my destination every day. Sometimes a little engine power is inevitable but I do avoid it as much as possible.

I don't think we're losing anything I think It's all part of the creators plan. We could all live here through the Ice Age in the world is turning on its axis which is slightly different as time goes on. We should focus on enjoying and taken care of what we have right now and leave the rest to the creator who made it and it will be taken care of

@@susan319 there is undeniable scientific evidence that climate change and global warming are real, and are happening at an astonishingly fast pace. It might not work in your situation but I have previously been able to free a halyard that's wrapped around a spreader as follows; tie a fender securely to the end of the halyard. Tie another rope securely to the bottom of the fender. Hoist the fender to the height of the spreader You can then use this second rope to swing the fender where you want it to be and to release the snag. Probably not the best explanation but try it in port and you will get the idea. It saved me from climbing the mast.
