As I recall, Nerdcore wasn't a thing in 1988.. however, you can't get much more Nerdcore than playing Radio Shack. If The Shack was still around, it would be so great to perform there with a modular synth, math rock, or some such.

Remember in 8th grade my friends older sister asked if we wanted to go see a band. We asked who and she said Nirvana and we said never heard of em. No thanks. Damn I wish we went.
