I was definitely the ITs working all-nighters to save us from Y2K. It sucks that so many people thought it was a over reaction and nothing happened. Nothing happened because of the work done behind the scenes. One funny story, my uncle worked for t mobile ( I think if was voicestream at the time) and they made him stay in the store all night in case something happened. He's like wtf am I going to do if something happens? I'm a salesman lol

TP as currency??? Silly scientists, that didn't happen until 2020! :P I was around for Y2K, and you got it, they started warnings early enough to where it was all okay by 2000. Mac-centric systems didn't have the problem anyway, as they used four-digit year -- my pink bubble iMac was safe! Not that many commercial applications were Macs, I think they were 5% of computers in use. Another thing we came together and solved was the hole in the Earth's ozone layer from pollution. Ozone stops the sun's UVB rays from murderizing everything. They realized in the late 70's, and sorted out most of the problem was from industrial chemicals; the problematic ones were phased out and now the only people getting UVB burns are Bored Ape NFT holders!

I remember this. While it was something a number of folks did worry about, most folks weren't really too worried about it. No one really worried about missiles firing or exploding. Lot of folks didn't even bother to set the clock on VCRs, and it didn't even really matter. If it was on VHS, of course "00" meant 2000, not 1900. And if it was problematic, a new VCR wasn't that big of a deal. I did admittedly watch the approach of Midnight, January 1st, 2000 with baited breath, to see what, if anything would happen. Nothing big or significant happened. - Aircraft didn't fall out of the skies. - Traffic lights didn't act up. - Nuclear warheads didn't explode in place or get fired, either at pre-determined targets or somewhere else. - Very few, if any companies or government entities found themselves unable to operate. - The running water kept running. - The power stayed on. - No one's car stopped working. - I don't even know of anyone who had to replace their computers at home immediately because of this. There was a much higher amount of IT investment throughout the 90s in anticipation of this, precisely so companies and governments can advert any problems. Auditing software, patching or rewriting software, maybe even some hardware replacement. And that's precisely why almost nothing happened. This was also in conjunction with the dot-com boom, which like an overfilled rubber balloon, became less resilient over time until it bust in the worst way possible, in '01. There would be a major, significant rise in online web shopping and services, but that wasn't going to come until a little later. There *were* a few minor glitches here and there, but nothing significant that couldn't be quickly resolved. The most hilarious was that in early '01 or so, a 104 year old woman living somewhere in Minnesota or Iowa received a postcard in the mail, addressed to her parents, reminding them that it would soon be time to sign her up for kindergarten the following academic year. This was because the system thought she was born in '96, *not* 1896. I guess this was a rural county or school district somewhere, and no one in the government considered that anyone born in the 1800s might still be alive, and thus didn't realize the problem. There is a similar problem that's fast approaching, called the "Year 2038 problem." When the Unix operating system was first released, every system has an internal counter which is the number of seconds that have elapsed since Midnight, January 1st, 1970, GMT. This is called the Unix Epoch. It apparently seemed like a nifty idea, so no doubt other operating systems introduced this as well. Unfortunately, representing this as a 32-bit integer means it will rollover/overflow, much like a car odometer, on January 19th, 2038. I too, expect this to be a complete nothing-burger. The first evidence of this could have occurred in '08, if there's some sort of software out there that relies on the Unix Epoch to, for example, calculate an amortization table for a 30 year real estate mortgage, which would include dates in 2038. However, programmers realized this problem shortly after Y2K, which meant that during the aughts ('00-'09) and early teens ('10-'19), this problem was quietly fixed in most systems, and most operating systems and software. The rise of 64-bit CPUs in the mid aughts helped as well, since it means the Unix Epoch can now be represented as a 64-bit integer, which needless to say, is many orders of magnitude larger. I would even expect the longest lived embedded systems (good examples of embedded systems include restaurant ordering systems and traffic light control) that, even if in use for 20 years, will eventually get replaced well before 2038. And anything that might have been installed in the last decade plus or so, is likely not to be subject to this problem. Even so, it will be interesting to see if any minor glitches result when January 19th, 2038 comes around. I expect nothing significant.

I've got a sister and she doesn't live with me at the moment, and I picked up this game again initially to help me get up in the morning to walk/run and now it became a medium to hang out with my sister more, as she has also downloaded the game again. It's helping us keep in touch more, and we are definitely closer now because of the game.

The most fun I've had in video games over the past couple years have been playing Go. After having a kid, Pokemon Go became the little game I could play on the side of being a full time parent. Eventually it lead to finding new friends in a town I've lived in for a relatively short time. So, world peace for me, man.

I personally see this as something similar to what happens in ds2. People go in expecting to play it like how they have play the other games or the base game. Only to make a absolute fool out of themselves, since they can’t wrap their head around the fact that they can’t play it how they thought they could play it.

The circumstances of the 1983 crash were unique, gaming was confined to just one region and because of sunk cost the aging 2nd gen consoles were not replaced but instead milked to oblivion. Computers were still too expensive to buy so they couldn't augment the market. Other markets were problematic to expand to as they had a different analog TV systems and way lower purchasing power then the US. I for example, didn't have access to any video game system because my parents income was too low while PAL consoles and games were more expensive then the NTSC versions and even when I got access to games eventually it was an outdated IBM compatible bought from used corporate equipment sale. In our days, consoles and PCs might able to eventually penetrate the emerging markets once incomes there rise enough as the playing experience is still way better then on a smartphone and the shovelware issue is way more severe on Android then anywhere else. Once cellular infrastructure in those countries improves enough to have good 4G and 5G coverage then cheap enough cellular routers will be able to power consoles and PCs or someone might just build a console version with cellular connectivity.

If there's really gonna be a new Video Game Crash (in the US at least), I think AAA Games and Devs will be hit the hardest, leaving a golden opportunity for Indie Devs and Japanese Devs to move in and fill the void. Edit: I also hope Self-Publishing avenues will become cheaper.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. However, I want UE5 for workshop maps. I would also like to point out that smurfs are rampant in other games with AAA price tags. So price tags don't seem to matter to players that enjoy smurfing.

The port to a new engine isn't only for graphics. Currently the way UE3 is handled in RL is via scripts that are afaik not the best system in general. That's what stops psyonix from implementing any new ideas that aren't simple. The game does need the upgrade long term and maybe the solution is to have the new game as a revision rather than a port so for example Rocket League 2 and keep OG Rocket League as is. Unfortunately the old version will start to lose support but as long as items port over, I feel like it should be fine.

trying to make rule one make sense to some degree, To take from the keeping the ball up, when your down and it doesnt matter to the game, During a rule one you and an opponent is taken out of play forcing a 2v2 or a 1v1, sort of like taking a reset/break for a moment and joining spectator mode for a second, Everyone takes games way too serious and have fallen out of touch with why games were created in the first place, to have fun and enjoy it with friends

Pausing video after #1. Prefacing here that I'm definitely subbing to this channel, but! You can't ask me to not blame some teammates when it is clear as day that they have no idea how to even rotate and recover. I'm sorry but it's hard not to notice when you're obligated to *stay on 3rd man to cover for every single ball* and rarely ever go down field because your teammates keep jumping for EVERY SINGLE BALL and NOT rotating. Yes, maybe they're having a bad day, maybe a bad streak, RL gods know we've all had those. They are people with lives and issues and I won't presume to blame them for any of that, but I do *hold them responsible* for their ignorance of basic gaming principles that honestly make the game less enjoyable for those of us who are unfortunate enough to have been paired with them. You answer me this. There is no i in team, right? We play together, win and lose together, and that's quite fine. Are we then expected to "work through" an open net every time when rotating down field, because teammates can't be bothered to look up a YT video to explain to them what rotations are?? Because that's how you get Br'd to hell
@carloszard Жыл бұрын
I mean you're not wrong ofcourse, there will always be some "ignorant" teammates out there and tbh since last season reset it feels as if the teammates/opponents have become an even bigger diceroll as opposed to previous seasons. That being said, if you're not playing against a premade, the opponents have similar odds in that diceroll as your own team (one of the reasons why I miss the solo standard playlist). Also, thanks for the support! Really appreciate it :)
