There is just as big a need for an atlas of the field names of Ulster. They seldom appear in documents and are rapidly being lost. Townland names originated from farms which in turn originated from fields.

I've never been able to find out how & when the Irish townlands originated. They are unique in these islands.

All Im getting when i press play is a 2 second movie of someone cleaning her teeth with an electric brush! I assume its an advert, but who knows

I think that must be an advert unfortunately. The video detailing the Atlas is a little over 2 minutes

Index shown appears to leave off County Down and Upper Iveagh Low Half & most of its townlands -- leaving impression that this material on these also omitted.

Although not shown in the short video, every County in Ulster is included in the Atlas. The video just shows "snippets" from the book. I believe there are around 13,000 different Townlands across the nine counties of Ulster referenced and mapped in the book, with around 1,180 Townlands mapped in Co. Down.

Whilst this video was very informative about the new changes, there still remains what I feel has been a large disappointment. The old website, and its new version, will still ONLY show the BDM records for TWO of the 9 'Ulster' Counties ; Antrim & Down. The other ' Four Counties of Northern Ireland' are missing; Armagh, Fermanagh, Londonderry, and Tyrone. Republic of Ireland Counties of Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan making up the other 3 Counties of Ulster.

It would seem that people ( the planters ) that were sent to Ireland to take over the land that the Westminster government had confiscated from the native Irish were a nomadic / wandering. people. The descendants of these people who live in Ireland at the present time appear to never really settle and probably suffer from “ ill gotten gains “ syndrome , but can’t understand and express it . They are in a very confused situation because even though they are born in Ireland , they don’t feel of Ireland . The link to England , Scotland and Wales that they feel isn’t reciprocated by most of the people from those countries ..

Adore this Tina, you're wonderful. I feel like I just took a wonderful college class with a family twist! I look forward to researching my Irish Chicago roots with your guidance :-) L. Baker
