Yussef has been described as neo jazz and I think that’s an accurate characterization. It’s not smooth jazz. It’s modern, unique, spiritual… Hes incredible.

Gosh, it's hard to do the same samba foot pattern from Grade 4 with the song 'Spain' along with the rudiments all over the kit.

Sein Spielgefühl, seine Technik, sein Microtiming - he’s one of a kind. Schönen Tag noch!

I use all kinds of kits depending on the situation: 3 piece: Space saving on small gigs such as cafes 4 piece: Jazz and easy-listening pop gigs 5-6 piece: Bigger scale concerts for genres other than jazz (pop, rock, fusion, etc)

Good one. I have a question about the 3rd beat. When the 'a's (or the 'e's-also a cool beat-) aren't played on the hi-hat does that make it a shuffle? 🤔
@Withcare111
@Withcare111 Ай бұрын
No a shuffle is a broken triplet . This is written in 16ths but the shuffle feel is applied to it .
@brettclurdrums
@brettclurdrums Ай бұрын
Not quite! You'd need to change the subdivision to triplets to get a shuffle feel.
@ashleycrashdissinger8021
@ashleycrashdissinger8021 Ай бұрын
That's kinda what I thought but sometimes when I think 'I got it' I get a piece of info that takes me right back to feeling clueless. Subdivisions were easy, time signatures were the biggest culprits. 😏 Thank you.
@smellynelly1
@smellynelly1 Ай бұрын
@@ashleycrashdissinger8021 yeah so a shuffle is triplets with the middle one removed, so 1 _ a, 2 _ a, 3 _ a, 4 _ a instead of 1 + a, 2 + a, 3 + a, 4 + a
