Great Video! I was just wondering the wash you used for the battle damage. What color was used and what ratio of paint to water would you suggest. I am use to doing scenery, not using a plastic container.
@hoonter082 жыл бұрын
Hey! I used black acrylic paint at a pretty high water ratio - didn’t exactly measure but I would guess 1:8. This part was really forgiving because if you apply too much you can basically wipe it off and try again. I did several passes to gunk up different areas and get some contrast going. It was easier than I thought it would be! Just give it a try :)

@@hoonter08I'm also kinda glad it elicited a response. Can you tell me anything about playing as the Planta faction?
@hoonter082 жыл бұрын
Haha wondered if it was a 1st comment situation. My thoughts, Planta has the double explore benefit, so early on you should reveal lots of tiles and create a good ‘base’ for yourself. Don’t hesitate to throw away tiles in order to choose the best ones. Go for high production tiles and align your worm holes to minimize entrances into your base!

I'm making one of these for my Imperial fleet and your video is a wonderful walkthrough of the whole process! What shape is the case in after 5 years? Did you end up topcoating it?
@hoonter082 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ethan! I did SEVERAL passes of clear coat at the end. It’s in decent shape overall, though admittedly I baby it a bit 😅 some scuffs on the main feet area but overall it preserved well! Can’t wait to see you imperial version!

Hi buddy! OK, I have th3e case painted/weathered/etc and now I am now wondering how you pull the "pluck and pull" WITHOUT going all the way thru the foam?
@hoonter083 жыл бұрын
So two methods. and I'll do my best to convey this with words alone. But the short answer, you need to cut all the way through. Pluck the whole piece out. 1. For the main pieces which require the full depth of the foam, just pull them right out. On the top two layers of my case, I laminated some black card stock cut to size of the whole piece of foam, then after plucking all the main sections, I glued it to the bottom of the foam -- ensuring you don't spread any glue over holes that are fully plucked. It actually makes the sheet a bit more firm and easier to remove. I also pinched two small straps in on either side when I glued it down to make handles to lift it out. You can see the little grey strap poking out at 7:08 kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6mwcpxsr6mdqtE 2. For ships or parts that do not require the full depth, still start by cutting the piece right out, then measure the depth you need and cut the removed piece accordingly. Use a sharp, new, Olfa blade extended out and try to make the cut in one motion. For some of the thinner ones I glued these down to the laminated sheet at the bottom of the cavity, but most just fit in and hold snug against the foam - afterall it's a perfect fit! Hope that helps. btw would love to see what you've got going on!

I have no idea how to do this...
@hoonter083 жыл бұрын
Glad you found the link to the case. The foam inside is called 'pluck and pull' foam and is made up of tiny squares which are scored so they easily separate. All you need to do is lay your item down, loosen around the perimeter and remove the piece. Google pluck and pull foam and you'll get a better sense of what it looks like and how to work with it. Hope that helps!

Hi Im just wondering why you didnt remove the pins for the laches and handle? is it better if you remove them? Thanks for the answer
@hoonter084 жыл бұрын
I wasn't sure how easily they would be removed and replaced so I didn't bother. The handle still moves freely after all the paint so it didn't seem to cause a problem. If you wanted to paint the handle a different colour than the case it would make sense to try and remove it.
