I love to watch you paint. I have been painting in watercolor since 2006 and have had many teachers in that time. I really am liking your painting style because it truly takes advantage of the traits of watercolor that enable it to stand out from artwork created with other mediums. I am changing my process as a result. Thank you for helping me along my watercolor journey.

I like these tips! The animals look much more natural when you paint them in this way.

I really like this painting , but eye of the steer looks off, and the nostril shape needs more definition. The rear haunches need some shadow. What do you think? I am not an animal painter myself, and I know how easy it is to critique another person's work.

Love your artwork Matthew! Would you please tell me the brand and name of the lavender that you use? It would be so helpful! Daniel Smith has a Wisteria, I think, that looks like your lavender.

I have been rejected from competitions many times. It's not a good feeling because I always feel rejected as a person too. Judges have their own biases . You just can't paint to please judges. I always tell myself Van Gogh and Cezanne couldn't sell anything in their lifetime. You are a good painter and teacher. Nobody can take that away from you. Please keep posting your great videos.

Thank you for this video! Very timely for me as I am struggling with knowing how much detail to put in the foreground without making it so detailed as to become a focus, but detailed enough to be adequately realistic. Somehow, I find it much easier to decide how much detail is enough in the background …

Hiper realistic detailed botanicals, magnified, but people, landscapes, animals very watery, more imagimation and poetry than precise shapes or details.

I managed to find some windsor and newton van gogh colletion at the thrift store. Pens, mink brushes, pigments etc. Everything was in it for like 20€ lol. I still use my cheap watercolour if I want more texture/muted colours tho! oh, and also! For mixing, I have been using a glass sheet from an old picture frame and it's worked great against a white surface
