It is respectful to assume both are equal bearing in mind it incooperates individual potential, motivation and many other discrepancies. What's more there is no reason you can't pursue either (or at least from a professional standpoint). If we could do like edison did whit the light bulb, i mean every university in the united states could in their laboratory to produce a new material by random trying, 2-3 materials per week , in a year probably 50 000 or so new materials would be produced and searched for unique properties in the field of optics and electricity , so that united states could have new materials made from local resources and being made in the us so no dependency on china for rare elements. Would be even faster than simulating whit computers , and could be made by every school and university in country so that humans to work at this could be so much compared whit how much people had edison in search for light bulb
