So saturation is either just a different hue in the visible light spectrum or a hue tinted with white or toned down with black? If I’m right we’re really just talking about colors and values.

I am amazed to see why you are not on stock sites. Over last 12 years, I built my portfolios there and it is very sweet money indeed. That is the volume/quality market.

I think stock photography can be great if you’ve been doing it for a long time. However, in this day and age I think creatives are better off putting their energy towards other sources of income. Stock photography can certainly be a viable method for generating income, but it’s a long game and distracts from the things that move the needle even more (like sponsorships, client work, digital products). Both in the short term and in the long term.

@@seandalt Think stock photography as retirement plan. Whatever you are not using for client works or any left-overs can be uploaded on these sites. The way Gorodenkoff has expanded his photo and video business, no other has done it. He is on all major stock sites. His work is curated and custom created. You may like to google him.

My favourite street walk around lens is Zeiss batis 25 f2. It is sharp it is small and light and has better contrast than gm lens and it pairs so well with my Sony a7r5. In dx it is 37.5mm and I have still 26mb. It is two lens in one for landscape, architectural, street and portrait.

Hello Sean, I really enjoyed your video, and I’m happy to have finally found some great content to help me grow my photography. I’ve been working as a professional photographer since I graduated two years ago, and I’m COMPLETELY FROZEN by the idea of taking the next step. I specialize in travel photography, working with both digital and film, I like to develop myself and I write too. I even do videos and drone. I have a nice website that I’m finally happy with, and there’s more than enough content on it. But when it comes to bridging 'now' to 'my first clients,' I have no clue how to get there. I’ve listed a bunch of potential clients and magazines I’d like to work with, but I fear imposter syndrome a lot. I often compare myself to photographers I wish I could be, and I always feel like I’m not ready. What should I do? Why do I feel so stuck when I feel like I have everything set for success? I wonder if anyone else has this issue too.

I only have two focal lengths now in ff equivalent terms: 35mm (X100VI) - everyday, everything camera. 750mm (500mm on a Fuji) - birds and wildlife. Feels weird switching between them sometimes because it’s such a huge change.

Excellent tutorial, thank you. I totally agree about taking that break when editing. It’s good to be in the flow but I do find I go more extreme the longer the session, so the break gives me a natural pause to dial it back in.

Motion Array is only part of the gradual downfall of genuine direction and intent. Voice actors will absolutely be out of work. Aren't you worried about losing your job to AI as well? Most people might be ok with an AI photo.
@seandalt
@seandalt 6 күн бұрын
Not really worried about it. AI voiceovers aren’t the real thing either, they miss a lot of natural inflection. Motion Array has a ton of amazing assets other than AI voiceovers, and I genuinely find a lot of value with them (as do many other creators)

Thank you Sean. I feel the same as you. The downside is that it's pretty challenging to grow a personal brand on socials with this niche. I mean it takes way longer. But I know too that these large accounts get loads of clicks but don't sell anything either. But in the end of the day, what matters is to translate authenticity and fulfillment. Great (100th) video.

I started taking photos with disposable cameras in high school late 2003, went into business around 2012, quit in 2015, rebranded and launched in January 2023. And what I wish I would have known in 2012, was to do the exact opposite to not only what others were doing, but to what others were advising to do.

Doesn't the color you see when editing a photo depend on how well the monitor is calibrated? Maybe proper monitor adjustment should be the first step in photo editing. Also, I think monitors that are manufactured to display colors very accurately are very pricey. Kind of an initial barrier to delving into the whole process.

Social networks have formatted the photos we see, and recent cameras and smartphones have democratized photography. In a way, it's now “easy” to take bangers and make them available online. I think documentary photography is much more complex and interesting, especially if you aim to subtly suggest a story behind the work.

I get your point, but the mystery of these common markets in Asia and the images that one can create, doesn't last long. I lived in Vietnam for a year teaching English, I lived in Chiangmai for two years, I've been to Cambodia 13 times over the last 18 years, and so many times to Malaysia, Myanmar, Japan, Laos etc. I would literally have thousands of photos from these Asian markets, street scenes, wandering around countless fish markets, boat building yards etc. However, when I look at my website, there is nary one of them in my portfolio or my documentary galleries. Those images seem OK at the time, but their appeal as powerful pictures, in the images that you need to represent your best work as a photographer - are often not want you want. My best work seems to come from back home here in Australia. People from my local community, the paid work that I shoot at gigs, events, community programmes and weddings. It can be done, because Steve McCurry has built up a huge work of incredible images over 45 years, wandering the earth with his camera. However, as I get older, it's my local community that gives me the greatest privilege and joy to document.

Hello Sean! Thank You for the video and your effort of interacting is noticed with your subscribers. This was one of the main reasons to drop a comment (will try to make it short, as possible). The other is the indisputable content of this video. Have been learning how important is color theory, I know my way around LR (technically and being humble), do edit at an acceptable level (but), just can't reach the next level, despite of being really committed. It is hard for me to build a consistent method and I take into consideration every sport scenario is different, e.g. surf (beach location) and motor racing (depending on the race track, time of the year and day, etc.). "Where to start", is still a "Dark cloud" over me. Feel that I'm not far from achieving it, but simply not there yet! I shoot mostly sports and looking to achieve a point where I could read the color pallet from a certain location, edit accordingly, build a preset, as I usually have a quick turn around to delivered images. Please let me know a direction to take, as I have complete already a few courses for the last couple of years, either I'm asking the wrong questions :) on the wrong places, or the level that I am leaning on is not available where I live...really don't know! Thank You ahead for taking the time, despite of having a new subscriber, I am looking forward for future videos regarding color theory\ editing. Merry Xmas. Carlos

One of my favorite places to take photos is just around my neighborhood. I walk around the neighborhood (only like a mile loop) several times per week, and I love trying to find new things to take photos of. It's amazing how often I get home with new, cool photos of the same stuff I've walked by hundreds of times.

If you shoot raw, then it doesn’t matter which color space is set in camera. You are choosing this when you convert the raw and when you view it. You can set that in Lightroom. But the raw itself has to be interpreted first before any color space is applied.

Shoot in RGB, edit in ProPhoto RGB, and export based on destination (e.g. sRGB for web). Technology changes and you shouldn't be limiting your color space based on what's available now. Best practise.
