I have one. An underrated positive point is that -- though the camera itself is a bit overpriced -- it prevents gear acquisition syndrome by being all-in-one. With a fixed lens you spend 0 time researching new lenses and 0 money buying them 🤣

I’m a proud owner of a Fuji X100 V and it’s true! It’s soooo f’cking difficult to find it brand new right now! It’s crazy! I f’cking love this camera sooo much!!! I’m not kidding when I say that even if I buy a newer model later I’m planing to keep this one with me for decades and something tells me this camera is going to age pretty well.

Thank you for this video, Sean - I have found myself in the same rut of not wanting to take photos or post them because they’re not Insta-perfect or they don’t live up to my (way too high) expectations. It’s nice to know professionals like yourself deal with the same insecurities. Your content is always so inspiring and I look forward to watching your videos. Do you have any books about photography that you recommend? More interested in instructional/technique/philosophy than just books of photos (which usually make me feel like I’ll never measure up!).

Thanks Sean, I couldn’t have said it better. It gets depressing trying to get the perfect photo, instead of capturing life around us. I have the mighty tome of Magnum photos and what a joy they are to browse through. Where would us humans be without the documentary photos. Thankyou for putting my life back into perspective. Recently I have been going through my 60 yr old collection of black and white negatives, and using the cyanotype process to print them out. What joy this has given me to see my family again in blue and white those everyday meaningless photos to anyone else evoke such happy memories, and that is what street photography does, not those endless long exposures of the sea and rocks, but people and places. So once again Thankyou from an elderly lady who loves photography but often looses her way.

I so love your comment, Gill! My wife and I are avid amateur snappers and have introduced our (soon to be ten year old) grandson to magic of photography. Your catalogue of negatives and developed images are a rich seam of family history for all to enjoy. I hope you continue to enjoy your photography for many years to come.

Well said, Sean. I've been shooting for 45 years. The first 35 with my trusty Olympus OM10 35mm. I was totally oblivious to all the photography chat on KZbin until I bought a small digital camera at the start of 2013. The great advantage of film was the inability to assess each shot immediately after capturing it. I use my Fuji X100V because it's so convenient. My photography is for me and I don't feel the need to share it, explain it or have it critiqued by others. Is every photo that I take a masterpiece, hardly ( it took me well over ten years of shooting film before I took a photo that struck me as being anyway good - and even then it was a spur of the moment shot to finish a reel that I thought nothing of until I saw the developed article). I love that photography embraces such a wide church of participants, each with our own motivation and favoured camera manufacturer and/or system. Life is imperfect so I take it as a given that captured images can also be imperfect. For me that often adds a reality to the image. You won't be surprised to know that I shoot jpeg because raw and computer screens loaded with Lightroom aren't my thing. For what it's worth I enjoyed your photos of Ireland. For me they came across as having been taken by someone wanting to capture memories, not technically perfect images, and are all the richer for that. Thanks for posting & I look forward to seeing more of your content.

Man you tell it like it is. I bought my 1st generation Fujifilm X100 in 2011 when it came out because I was instantly in love with the concept of having a mirrorless camera with a hybrid viewfinder. Even though I am working professionally with much newer and "better" cameras I still love using my X100. The X100V is the first newer generation that is tempting to me but I shot so many great memories and so many great photographs with my old camera I just can't bring myself to exchange my X100 for a X100V.
@Kameratzas

I was in the same boat up until a couple of days ago. I bought the X100S when it came out, took it with me everywhere and to many countries and have many photos/memories with it. Over time the sensor and finder have gotten dusty, the batteries, even the new one I just bought don‘t charge properly, so it had stayed in the drawer being sad. I got lethargic and found an X100V for a good deal in the local ads, now I have a camera that honours the X100S that I dearly loved shooting with. Like an homage to it‘s retired older brother. Can‘t wait to take it out on it‘s first shoot!

After years shooting with professional cameras and looking for the perfect photo everywhere, I took a moment and I boought a Fujifilm Finepix x100 (the first one). Now I own two Fuji cameras. I fell in love straight away and I wanted to try because I was curios about the Film Simulation. The more I use it the more I feel free.. free to shot anything I want, without rules, it reminds me why I started my journey with photography, the need to explore, learn and see the world with different eyes. I think every photographer should't stop to experience this, let's take a break and remind ourselves why we are here.

Wow that’s crazy! I was just in Ireland too. I brought my dslr / canon rebel eos t6 and took “bad” photos with my iPhone 6. All it mattered to me was that I gather pics of things that I saw that made me remember the memories and be able to share with others. Even if it’s slightly blurry, out of focus, or even not the right angle - it was still lovely.

And the reason why I was thinking about the Fuji, was exactly to take it easy and small. But I think I to go first with a compact lens for my Sony, rather than buying another camera. Like a 28mm f2 or similar. Anyway, great video man, I love the work you do on YT!

I’ve been feeling the same. I hate taking photos these days because every time I push the shutter button I put all my hopes into a perfect insta worthy photo. I lost my passion for photography because of it all. Now I’m selling my canon and planning to take a break.

@REMY.C. Жыл бұрын
Instagram and suchlike are just a place to make you think everything is perfect when in reality many are staged, some are retouched, other took a long time to be at this level and the photographer shot hundreds and hundreds of photos to be that good. You're putting too much pressure on yourself thinking "you have to take the perfect photo every time". Take with you daily a camera that you like, take photos and focus on the moment, the composition. But don't peek, don't look at the photos when you put them on your computer, just forget about them for weeks, months or even more. And maybe after that period when browsing your photos you'll find a couple of good ones, you'll even want to print those and hang them to the wall. Selling your gear and taking a break might make you sad, like you're missing something you really like. It's gonna hurt if you truly love photography. Just keep doing it but do it for yourself not the short-lived insta fame where everyone has a 5 seconds attention span.
@steveboxen
@steveboxen Жыл бұрын
@@REMY.C. hard to do when you shoot portraits and promise a 2 week turnaround for clients. That’s why I quit. I don’t take photos for anyone but myself now. I decided to sell me gear and live in the moment until I decide I’m ready to start capturing it again. When I do, I’ll decide what to buy. Maybe a rangefinder this time.

And I was wondering if fuji's magic color science works in countries far from seaside and with lots of haizy days in a year?) Hey Denis, I think so! There’s a lot of great European photographers that shoot in cloudy overcast settings. I think you should try and lean into the moodiness of the seasons out there. Don’t try to bring out the colors if they’re not there, just embrace the gloom and let that play a role in your photos. I don’t know a specific recipe off the top of my head for this, but I recommend experimenting a bit

Glad you found a steal there man! It’s a great site, and they check everything thoroughly. If you haven’t purchased it yet, do you mind using the link at the top of the description?

It's definitely an overrated camera tbh but it is aesthetically pleasing* the film recipes aren't as good as my custom Lightroom presets I've spent years making though. I like the in camera ND filter and the OVF. But honestly I grab my Sony a6000 more because it's even more compact and I like a solid shutter CLICK. I bought the brand "squarehood" mk III but it doesn't fit any of my 49mm filters. 90$ for the thing and it doesn't even work.

The X100V is every bit as good as all the other cameras, often better. All depends on who is using it. Check out JerredZ.
