Jules, sorry for bumping up randomly, but I have a question: I've bought a bunch of Dell editions (early early sixties) of Brett Halliday's Mike Shane paperbacks, and a few Peter Cheyney's Fontana editions (also very early sixties, also paperbacks). And all of them are quite dirty. What do you suggest for cleaning them? (I know that you have lots of cleaning videos, but I'm a bit afraid not to damage books, so sorry for this direct question, despite vast amount of videos on this issue. But your repairing tips are already implemented, and saved some very dear books!)
@asmrjules8 күн бұрын
For outright dirty/grubby covers, trying gentle Mr Sheen polish should work wonders. Being 60's issues, the covers should be laminated so you won't damage the books.

Great (and kinda relaxing) vid, Jules - looking forward to seeing the newly-purchased lot. Please be sure to video where you choose the best copy from your duplicates - I find that process interesting as I do it myself when upgrading books in my vintage SF & fantasy (and Puffin story book) paperback collections. Sometimes it’s difficult to choose which to keep when comparing books of different prints, spine/cover condition etc!
@asmrjules2 ай бұрын
Thanks my friend. I will be doing the comparing copies part from numbers 1001 upwards. I'm in the process of cleaning 501 to 1000 right now, those are in the loft anyway and I just can't film up there very well. I'm going to bring down the 1000 upwards collection and film the comparing copies downstairs, which has better lighting to see what's what.

Another great video as always Jules, however I'm a little confused as this video appears to contain much of the footage from your "VINTAGE Book + PAPERBACK Pickups - April 2024 - Another Crazy Month - Vintage SF - ASMR, Maybe!" video which you uploaded on to your main channel six days ago. Is this video some sort of re-edit of that video?.

Hi Diana, you are right, it's a slightly cut down version on the video from my other channel. I have removed any reviews of modern books and it's just the cleaning. Once again thanks for showing! Snakedance & Enlightenment were very good reads IMO. I even enjoyed The Highlanders considering that the book is the way to enjoy it if you don’t want to listen to audio or watch a reconstruction. Same with Marco Polo, although that book dragged when it came to pacing IMO. Anyway, I better not talk to much LOL!
