You know Capti, it sounds or seems strange, but if an instructor misses something as simple as how to tighten a tank strap or alternate ways to attach a SPG or Octo, those student divers will be without important tips until they are finally shown at some point in their diving career. Thanks for watching and commenting. Bob C

An excellent interview. It was a pleasure to see divers who did everything right. There is one safety item that I have been using for years that was not mentioned. It is a small strobe that I keep attached to my inflator hose. It is unobtrusive and very robust and reliable. There are several brands making similar devices. BTW, I loved the Maker's attitude. Much luck.

Great interview Bob. So amazed by their perseverance! I was in the store and said hello to you as the Makers were walking in. You told me they were at sea for 39 hours and look it up. Which I did. Of course the news never gets it right so this interview was very enlightening. I would like to hear more about the decisions made on the boat that led to abandoning two souls at sea. In rough conditions. As divers, in my view, we aren't just passengers on these vessels. We're part of the team that keeps us all safe. We look for cylinders not secured, diver's valves not open, hose snags, etc. So while the Captain is the ultimate authority, we all have a responsibility to make sure well considered decisions are made. Maybe that happened and it was about the safety of all on board to leave the scene. Certainly a tough decision to make. Glad the Makers are safe and still diving!

Thanks Steve for your question and being part of the channel. I tend to be about the little stuff on my dive gear. The inflator/Deflator to some maybe bulky but it makes operating it so nice. The hose itself with the side track and upper clip for the hose keeps it neat and streamlined. Other items like the knife grommets, smooth zippers, pre bent D-rings in the right locations, trim and slim bolster sides, quick detach tank and valve straps, No big back plate, trim pockets and the Wrap-ture waist system is very comfortable. Thanks for your question, sorry for the delayed response. Bob C

Well, you did a better job than Scubapro does on their website, which is lacking. I’m looking at an Mk21-I guess a bit smaller than the Mk25, but can’t see any significant difference. Your thoughts?
@DiversSupplyYT
@DiversSupplyYT 28 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment and question. The MK21 is a compact sized piston-controlled first stage. It's 20% smaller than a MK25 and is a mid-range $$ air balanced, 1st stage. - The air balanced piston units some say deliver more air to the 2nd stage. - - Balanced units vs unbalanced 1st stages result in smoother, more consistent breathing response, especially in deeper depths and low tank pressure ranges. - The 21's design and external IP adjustment make it somewhat unique compared to other 1st stages. * Mk25's and Mk19's have a built on Turret for port outlets, which gives more flexibility than the fixed Mk21's design. For some, this is a major upgrade. The move up from mk21/560 combo to mk19/G260 is not too bad $$-ish vs the mk21/560 to mk25/a700 which takes a stronger commitment $$$. I tend to be a MK19 Fan... So I am a new diver going through my OW class atm. Most of the class bcd's have the pockets that when opened dump the weights out but only if you are horizontally orientated. The bcd I am using has the weights that go into a pouch that is then velcro'd in with a handle to grab them to release. Watching this video there are alot of bcd's that use these proprietary pouches. Why would this be used? Is it to ensure that when deciding weight needs to be dumped that it is dumped regardless of body orientation? It seems like it would ruin your diving should you need to dump weight and now have lost the weight pouches until you replace them. Especially if you are on a trip. At least with the pocket style all you have to do is replace the lost weight which is done far easier.
@DiversSupplyYT
@DiversSupplyYT Күн бұрын
Sorry about the delayed response, Much of what you describe is spot on. Losing a clip/snap/lock in weight pocket does mean if you failed to completely secure the attaching mechanism, it (including the weight itself) is gone as soon as the diver goes horizonal. So no matter what design or direction a diver is in during the dive, there's a possibility of losing a pocket. To say that the Scuba equipment manufactures could "all" agree on one design, would be hoping that Santa was real....

1. Why the dive boat decided to left them stranded? Why didn't the dive boat rescue them immediately when they drifted away? 2. Do they each have a SMB with them and how many dive torch do they carry? 3. Did they ditch their weight to keep afloat?

I bought an Apex regulator with you guys a few years ago and love it. However, because it is a DIN, I bought an adapter (from another store) so I could use it overseas. Arriving at my destination, I found out that the knob screw was too short for any cylinder yoke valve they had (Caribbean). Luckily, the bolt had an extra regulator and we switched the yoke screws for a regular length one. I’m not familiar with yoke cylinder valves, so I wonder if they come in more than one size or if it was an oversight of the manufacturer. Cheers.
@DiversSupplyYT

Hi VOV, Interesting question but it's true there are various, let's call it thicknesses, of valves. Especially over the years, MFG's and world locations that could account for your issue. There's also slight differences in the design of "A Clamps" also known as Yokes where the top has bigger / wider shoulders. There are also Yoke Screws where the inside of the Cap has various depths to contact the top /shoulders of the A Clamp. Without having direct access to the gear, kinda hard for me to point at the exact problem. Thanks for your question. Regards Bob C

Monprene® elastomers - Are composed of saturated styrene block copolymer rubbers and thermoplastic olefin resins. Ideal for applications requiring stretch, flexibility and soft-touch feel. We bought these and thoroughly regret the purchase: The Dive app will not open unless you have an LTE or wi-fi connection. The Connect app is completely cloud-based (all data disappears when not connected to at least LTE) so if you are on a live aboard boat you have nothing. The underwater messaging is gimmicky and within another menu so not very practical under water. Garmin support is abysmal. 45 minutes, 20 minutes and over two hour wait times this week alone. And then, even though you selected the option for the Descent MkIII, you get general customer service who doesn't know the watch well. They told me that there are very few people at Garmin who actually know the watch. The bezel is soft and scratches easily. The base of the transmitters are wider than other transmitters and won't fit on some octos without a pigtail. We really regret buying these.

Thanks much for the comment and Axiom question. I have done a few hundred dives in both versions standard and i3 model. - When I owned the i3, the amount of internal maintenance required, was just beyond the convenience of the unit's operating mechanisms. * Just being able to simply place my hand on the lever was wonderful. - As an Instructor Trainer, for my gear to be closer to what my candidates were using, I added a left shoulder Inflator/Deflator / Pull Dump Hose in place of the oral inflator tube. - Sadly, since I teach more than I fun dive, my Axiom is more work BCD than fun BCD. Because of that I stick to the Standard Axiom, kinda like having heated mirrors on my Jeep Gladiator here in Florida... Thanks for asking. Bob C
