I was told that the white part of the mountain on the bottom left, used to be another town and the rain caused a mudslide that washed it away. Allegedly, it was the wild town and families didn't live there as they did in Ballarat.

Back in the early 2000's a family lived between the mountains behind Ballarat. I was told they drank spring water. Everything in that store used to be two dollars.

Hello sir, i came across your video, and I'd like to visit ransburgh. Anything nearby locations? I'd do a little metal detecting, and I'm in the club of the GPAA maybe we will meet up someday out there. Thanks for sharing your video

There are many ghost towns around Randsburg that would be a great place for metal detecting. Let me know if you find anything interesting. Try Garlock, Red Mountain or Atolia. Maybe Ballarat.

That is so true. These pioneers were hearty souls. The hardships for the men, women and children of this era was immense. That is probably why they only lived in to their 40s.

What an amazing video! Earlier this year I did the Big Bell Mine but I came in from the top of Chloride Cliff and that hike was damn near straight down. I believe the park Rangers referred to it as the cable route and it was brutal!!

This is a very interesting and well done video. Nice shots of the milling site, and great that it was not vandalized. A lot of history there and the Death Valley region. Have you ever traveled to the west of Ballarat up Surprise Canyon? We used to go there once a year, but now you can’t get to the old mining site by vehicle, you have to hike to the site. It is the same trail that leads up to Panamint . As far as I know it is still there tin building and cabin with rustic remnants all over. Thanks and be safe out there!

I am aware of Surprise canyon and the mine site. I have not attempted that hike yet. I am told that is long and strenuous and usually requires an overnight stay at the site. Not ready for that one yet 🤣🤣.

@@GhostTownWonders no, really thank you for all your efforts. I'm from California so it's like your making awesome videos about my backyard. I've watched quite a few videos about some of the old mines and none of them really cover the history or even discuss the equipment like you. And in another twenty or thirty years a lot of these sites aren't going to exist any more. It seems like with each generation they care less and less about our history and more and more about blocking access because they raised their kids to stupid to trust they won't walk off into a mine shaft. Between vandalism and over zealous environmentalist I'm surprised these places have survived as long as they have. But thanks to you, they will never be forgotten. Your a good man for taking the time to video tape or record what ever they call it these days, I wish you the best of luck with your channel and life in general. Keep it up and I hope you make millions... Or at least enough off you tube ads to pay for your expenses so you can keep making amazing videos.

If you continue up the road you would have come to the mineshaft at the near top of the mountain no doubt that road is impassable as it was not in good shape in 1990.

Looks the same as when I was there in 1990. You went upstairs at that mill ? Brave soul as the upstairs wasn't that good of shape in 1990. The mineshaft up the hill was still open I have heard it is now collapsed. There is a lower shift not sure about its condition.

Incredible journey to the past. Thank you. How do you get your information and pictures? I'm trying to get some info on the Searchlight Mining and Milling Co. I worked at the Ruth there in the 80's and now have a friend that is refurbishing it. Having worked there as an assayer in the past,I know where all the hot deposits still await that miners dreams. What I don't have is much info on that particular shaft. Was hoping you could help in my quest. You do such incredible work. Any help would be appreciated.

Adam, This what I understand about the water fowel at Owens Lake. Snowy Plovers (listed in California as a Bird Species of Special Concern), have expanded their territories out from the lake margins, finding ideal habitat and food on shallow-flooded habitat. As a result, numbers of breeding plovers have nearly tripled in the past decade. Over a thousand American Avocets now nest on the lakebed, along with smaller numbers of Black-necked Stilts. Migrating waterfowl stop at the lake, and some species such as Gadwall and Mallard, have returned as breeders. Single-day lake-wide counts in spring or fall migration tally 40,000-60,000 birds. Experts expect that the area will attract even greater numbers of birds in the future.
