I had to go down a small rabbit hole for the Sky Screamer, because I didn't recall it being from Skyline Attractions. They don't list it as a ride they offer but they did some engineering and development on it for US Thrill Rides. However US Thrill Rides went bankrupt a few years ago and their assets were bought by MV Rides(Martin & Vleminckx) and they do advertise it as one of the rides that they offer under the new name SkyBlazer.

Prediction for the 2026 roller coaster: The entire ride will have three top hats. The first one will be 400 feet tall with a top speed of 100 mph. The second one will be 500 feet tall with a top speed of 130 mph. The third one will be 600 feet tall with a top speed of 160 mph. The color of the ride will be all different colors. It will be a record breaking roller coaster. I can’t wait to see what it will actually look like for the 2026 season.

Six Flags America refurbished their river rapids ride this past off-season, although I don't know how reliable it was this past season. Also Six Flags Darien Lake's river rapids has been dormant for awhile now, but it is showing on the park map again recently, and with the refurbishment of Mind Eraser causing it to be closed this past season, both attractions could part of a rethemed area just like SFA.

I'm not a big fan of drop towers and haven't ridden many, only ones in Florida. Falcon's Fury is probably my favorite drop tower if I had to pick one. There's other big ones like Doctor Doom's Fear Fall and Tower of Terror (does that count as a proper drop tower?) but those don't do much for me, and then there's the smaller towers like the ones found at the Fun Spot parks. It's a shame that towers seem to be disappearing especially after the Icon Park incident. And I live in Orlando, there won't be any new drop towers as far as I can see.

I'm going to miss Zumanjaro Drop of Doom. The only reason I could think they decided to permanently close it is that obviously, King Da Ka is past it's ride life expectancy. Also, I noticed when I visited during the 2023 Season. The Drop Ride got stuck a lot at the top.

for my birthday i overcome my fear of riding Supreme Scream by riding it again and again. Best way to overcome fear is to confront it. The Twilight zone tower of terror is still my favorite drop tower just for the theming and story of it. The idea of building spinning seats for a drop tower is something i was wondering could it be done with safety? Its a cool concept and would lead to possible cardiac arrests.

For SF, I think it probably came down to a numbers game. If you add a ride that requires x number of hours (or dollars) to y numbers of riders, then you have to close rides to move your limited number of work hours. So which ones do you close? They have chosen older, more labor intensive rides that need updating. I don’t see the drop towers leaving, they’ve been a mainstay of all theme parks for 85 years. They’re an expectation at this point. I think SF will use its’ purchasing power to replace them with the same model within the next 5 years or so. I would also expect them to focus on rides per hour and low maintenance. So, probably no new or prototypes, and instead a focus on proven reliable models/builders. During the last earnings call, there was emphasis on convincing the shareholders that they can increase revenue with the upcoming investment. This was the reason for hope for the future. But, you cannot expect to add new rides and not close something, unless your increasing your customers by a decent share. Also, there’s a labor shortage and theme parks will likely be challenged in the future. I haven’t seen a evidence that shows attendance increasing. For me, I’ve seen the opposite, of course, that is only anecdotal.

Another reason that some of these older drop rides are going by the wayside is that some of them are low capacity rides. Of course, so are many flat rides but those don't have the higher costs to build and operate. In other words, the parks just aren't getting enough bang for their bucks. This is probably also why skycoasters are vanishing, and for them it is even worse, as they are upcharge attractions.

I can count on one hand the number of drop towers I've ridden. My coaster count is well over 250 as of now. The only ones I have enjoyed are the so-called "shot towers" like the Liberty Launch at Holiday World. I don't care for the single drop kind. Not sure if it's the "one trick pony" aspect or what... I enjoy the drop on B&M dive coasters and I'm looking forwards to Siren's Curse at Cedar Point. I think what it is, is that I want more than just a single drop. I have ridden a couple of the old school Intamin towers and I got off thinking, "OK, now what to ride".
@ThemeParkMotivation6 күн бұрын
That’s what makes the Hershey tower at Hersheypark a pretty good one a launch up then up down then the big drop following up by some up downs especially on the side facing storm runner

But I do like the single drops if they’re over 200 feet with a slow climb to the top

I think this is because parks (atleast in the U.S) have been going through a family ride renaissance. We've been seeing more family coasters get built than thrill coasters. Now a reason for most of them leaving would be maintenance. While the accident may impact their futures at the moment, after a few years everyone will forget about the accident. Such a shame to see an iconic flat ride slowly leaving, just like the looping starships and top spins. I think S&S drop towers will be built more once we have another wave of the "coaster wars" or something like that, where parks go back to focusing on thrill rides.
@ThemeParkMotivation6 күн бұрын
Yes we’re definitely going through the family phase

Totally agree about the Spin Shot. This seems like an obvious win. You can breathe new life into an existing drop tower for little expense.
