Anna surviving in sunlight was addressed by her receiving transfusions from Clemens. Did it totally make sense? Probably not but this is a fictional reality, and I could live with it. Overall, I loved the film. It was like an updating of old Hammer films I grew up with and captured that mood. It was a nice variation on the vampire mythos and best of all it wasn't Twilight.
@noovernightguests12 күн бұрын
I know but… now vampires can survive in sunlight? Grrr. But I did like the focus on telling a more thriller-y type of story AND nobody knows about vampires. I mean, that one guy thought it was a demon, which makes sense. Side note: what if Clemens became a vampire? 😮

I thought this was a pretty good movie -- though I'm not a big fan of ugly Draculas -- LOL. As for Dracula just appearing in the Captain's Quarters, I just assumed he slipped in while Toby was wandering around then getting chased back by the 'turned' crewman. But, yeah, it did take to long for them to get that door open; plus, Toby just being frozen and not coming when called to open it, for so long, was an eyeroller.
@James-n8l7f21 күн бұрын
@darford5284 U may be right. At the same time people do freeze when confronted with overwhelming horror and he is a boy after all.. Don't forget Dracula can turn into a mist and run go through doors.

Certainly better than NOSFERATU. Better paced, more structured, a few surprises, the boy's death, the heroine's faith for example. I'm surprised it became crucified by the public. Maybe people should give it a second viewing.

For me the script is cluttered with too many ideas, too many characters and too many locations. Plus we have too many action scenes and not enough time for any character development. Though I still kinda like this film despite its issues. Good first review too. Thanks

@@noovernightguests...or the scene of a captured Laureline wearing a large flat hat that doubled for a plate?That's more like a horror film. So lots of ideas...some good ideas too...but no space for the viewer to take five. I don't think the cast had much of a chance, hence the criticisms of the two leads lacking "chemistry". Reminds of the Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies...its too full on but they just about got away with it. Thanks for the quick reply.

@@noovernightguests the two leads only had the classic "will they won't they" routine to work with. I suppose their relationship also depends on the source material (the comic) which could've played the same angle. Yeah I had my own theory/review on the movie and the messages behind it too, like that scene with Cynthia being in the bed with that blood and how apparently they were gonna do a film series if the movie had did good at the box office but what confused me was how were they gonna do that based on the ending we got 😂 that is interesting in how Jimmy was walking down the street it did a flashback because in some cases you can look at it as old spirit remembering the past-life before the present day where most things are gone/changed and what threw me off is how does Jimmy resurrect? Like there was no explanation, it just happens but I know I can speculate on that stuff 😂
@noovernightguests2 ай бұрын
What?! A series would have been so interesting. A way to tell more scary stories, maybe not centered on Jimmy Bones but more from the history of the area. And yeah you're right the black dog was there before they went into the basement. Hmmm.
@TheShadowspear22 ай бұрын
@noovernightguests Well the original version was supposed to have more scenes with Jimmy and Pearl but New Line Cinema had cut some parts out and we got their version in the end, also the commentary on the DVD they were kinda teasing a sequel but since the movie didn't do well at the box office there wasn't one made but if there was how would they explain what happens next based on the ending we got? 😂 I know they wanted to make Snoop Dogg like a movie villain icon like Freddy Krueger/Jason/Chucky it's just the movie made back half of what they did to make it. I just wonder what the sequel would've been about, like was Cynthia going to have supernatural powers and do stuff? 😂
@TheShadowspear22 ай бұрын
@@noovernightguests They describe the black dog as the manifestation of Jimmy's spirit, it's basically Snoop's shadow you see in the house, maybe it just possessed the dog. Jimmy Bones is such a unique character. 🤔 I absolutely and positivity feel remorse and empathy for Jimmy as I totally understand his anger as he was robbed out of his life. 😭😔🥺 Jimmy definitely and completely deserved his revenge in every way on the people that did him wrong in the past. 😏😈 It's a scene in the movie when he's walking in the neighborhood and he is remembering how great it was. I love that scene because it's representing that Jimmy Bones isn't really a evil and heartless individual at all as he was once the neighborhood protector making sure his community and his people we're safe and okay as he really loved and cared doing it. When Jimmy said " Those fools they my people" 😐 I felt that in my heart as he knows what's good for them. 😍😎💯👍 It's so heartbreaking and sad because it shows how the neighborhood went to hell as drugs and crime overcome it as the citizens really depended on Jimmy through all those 20 years he was dead. 😭😔🥺 It's also so relatable, insightful, and articulate because you have certain places in life that have special childhood moments and memories but unfortunately it takes a downfall as it's full with hatred, filth, and greed. 😭😔🥺

Bones (2001) is one of those movies that you can root for the main-character instead of the sub-character's to win. It also teaches you about revenge and redemption and how your actions and your past comes right back to haunt you which absolutely and positivity works perfectly for the movie as that was Ernest Dickerson purpose and interpretation of story which definitely and completely works perfectly for the movie which made it unique and special.😍😎💯👍 Jeremiah, Eddie Mack, and Lupovich did Jimmy dirty on so many levels. 😭😔🥺 What makes it that is that Jimmy was a good person such as being the neighborhood protector spreading love and happiness in the community. By doing that the neighborhood was bright, happy, positive, and fun. 😍😎💯👍 After his death the neighborhood went to hell as drugs and crime overcome it. 😭😔🥺 The scene when Jimmy is betrayed and brutally murder is one of the most heartbreaking and saddest scenes in the whole entire movie as my heart aches for Jimmy 😭😔🥺 and when I first saw it I had my mouth open in shock. 😰😱 For the past 20 years Jimmy's spirit became angry with the intention of getting revenge on those who betrayed him and anyone who gets in his way. Watching Jimmy getting his revenge on them was so satisfying as they all betrayed and brutally murder Jimmy out of jealousy and resentment as they do not have no remorse or regret for over 20 years as their past came right back to haunt them. It just put a smirk on my face and fills me with satisfaction as these evil individual's got for what they deserved. 😏😈

I agree with you entirely. Resident Evil Welcome to Racoon City was a disappointment. It had one or two fairly entertaining action sequences but these were few and far between. The plot makes no sense and was totally illogical. I have no issues with film producers, or book authors for that matter, creating their own version of Racoon City and the characters, I actually think it can reinvigorate the franchise if done well. But it's done badly in this movie. Character development was poor and I was not fond of any of the characters really. I mean, I did not hate the characters, but at the same time I did not feel much for them so I just did not care when one of them was killed off. I could not get emotionally invested in this film or the characters. You make some excellent points about the lack of context. Little is explained about why this version of Racoon City is the way it is and why some groups of people were vaccinated against the virus, whereas others were not. Why some essential workers but not others? The behaviour of the characters was bizarre. Leon not noticing the van crash and the flaming zombie was weird. It was almost like it became horror comedy for a moment there! More information about the virus and Umbrella would have been appreciated but we never got that. All in all the execution was poor and I feel they could have done a much better job. At least they tried I suppose!

Lol getting my clout out of the way. I'm actually from the south side. Something I always liked about candy man, is that it always felt like it shared certain tropes with the original dracula. While dracula was dealing with more or less Victorian roles, and the Victorian attitudes towards the way people present themselves to the public, candyman, is more interested in levels of social justice on paper, vs its actualization. This Is an interesting take, but the remake, seems to focus on current social issues, regardless of the victim hood. That seems a little constraining, and makes interpretation a little 1 dimensional.
