Great video. With the boom sprayer can you shut off individual nozzles also like the boomless?
@bill-winke15 сағат бұрын
On some, but normally you can shut off a group of nozzles, for example, my bigger sprayer is set up as "Right, Left, Middle" or any combination of those on the controller. With the smaller sprayers it is usually just right or left. Have a great day.

I have a couple creeks on my small 80 acre farm. I need to start utilizing them for access to some different setups. Idk about you bill, but going up that steep ditch I’d be sweating like crazy even when it’s only 20 degrees

Good point Sam. We will have to dress light and carry our outerwear. It will be a fun hunt though. Have a great day.

Robert, there are some really good stand locations up there that should be super fun all day hunts. We will profile later in the winter when we go in and actually hang the stands. Have a great day.

It makes the hunt so much better when you’ve really worked hard. I enjoy the hard work part too. Brothers I see all the hard work you guys are putting in!! Some would see that as crazy work. I think it’s a great idea and would have done the same. Luke 9:62

Gouch, it definitely makes that part of the farm a lot more huntable. Thee more I hunt here the more I realize how big of an advantage the deer have in being able to bed above and watch everything we do. Have a great day.

I’m pretty sure my lazy butt doesn’t want to kill a buck that bad. 😂 Problem here in north Georgia is you do all that work and the best buck you can hope for is 120”. Would seem kinda stupid. 😂😂😂

I know you said ditches are good access. But lets be honest, loose rocks and small tiny twigs and crunchy leaves will make it impossible to be completely quiet so I guess my question is , wont that still alert deer on both sides that something is in that ditch? I access a stand for a short distance during the rut to a spot. Never spook deer but definitely still make enough noise and the deer must just think its a deer or some animal crossing the way i do
@Woodland-GangstaКүн бұрын
Yeah that spot looks like it's going to pay off....I would be thinking a nice rut corridor from East to West ...Glad you didn't cut too much. Just enough for a safe undetected passage. Thanks for not cutting us off cold turkey like some the other hunting channels👎
@paulbernitt4280Күн бұрын
I agree, its easy to underestimate the time and energy to clear ditches like these in the driftless area. I have opened up 2 ditchs, 1 old logging trail and the beginnings of a new logging trail on my property. Hunting apps are good for navigating to specific stand sites from opened terrain but I find ribbons or reflective tacks are the most efficient methods for coming from the cleared ditches/trails to the specific stand sites in the dark. #BigBuckInTheTruck2025

in the late 1980 and early 1990 ds I would try to sound like a deer in compleat darkness no flashlight walking on my toes wind in my face some times they would let me walk by 20 feet away .I do not know how meany times I could smell the deer so close to me that I got scared knowing that it is a racked buck fallowing a doe . some times I use a stick adding a 3rd leg as I walk I force the stick into the ground between each step and walk right up to them. I still do that now .I pray every time that I go deer hunting that the deer that I sometimes jump on my way in let them run of weight 10 seconds and blow my nose one time as hard as I can . in the dark circle down wind and cross my scent trail , I figured this out in 1992ish let my pet rabbit bis on a small rug and each weak I leave my hunting boots in rabbit shit and yurin with tarcial gland hair on top of the rabbit shit , in the north east MAS NH if it is not posted you can hunt . I never leave any thing in the woods .my tree stand lone wolf self climber comes in and out every time . when someone sees a tree stand in the woods they walk over to see it and deer sign . spot ruined . my average tree stand hight is 39 feet I never get bust ed .7 times in the last 17 years it just does not happen when you are that high . I get 25 feet up a tree with my bow on my left side as I climb . I grab the bottom of my lone wolf treestand with my legs and readjust the angle and climb again so when I get to my desired hight it will be flat in the compleat darkness. I let the deer hunt me leaving a buck tarsial giant tied to a branch 7 feet off the ground all the time . I haven't let anything ever touch the ground except the bottom edge of my the stand wile I in stall the climbing aid .it takes me less then 4 minutes to be that hight . 228 deer bow hunts only I shot 5 in a field . most hunters will learn from this post but few will go to my KZbin page and look . I Never stop learning .

Great plan ! I always think of the field of dreams, build it and they will come ! In deer terms clean it up and they will find it and use it ! Lol I've learned to block off the trail with the cut branches and when I go back in later in the year to hang a stand clean it back up and rake a trail to the stand

Күн бұрын
Not easy as people might think. Ive been following your new adventure here and even with all the work, all the planting and careful in and outs, I dont remember you even getting many opportunities at 2-1/2, 3-1/2 year old bucks. Different travel behavior than you'd expect. 2 years from now you should be back in the booners in a big way. Next year should provide a shooter or two also. Chucking those 6' logs will keep you in an 80# bow longer, too. Be careful!

Bill you are correct there is a popular you tuber who I watched this year and he had cell cameras all over the place chasing 170 and above whitetail one instance stands out he was in a stand and was disappointed a deer he was after didn’t show up his cell phone rang and it was the buck he was after and it was at his other stand he climbed down and went after that deer . I use cameras because I hunt state property big woods in the north east not easy hunting but I use them to check on the heard so I know what’s there and what is not . Always enjoy your show and insights thanks again

How much does erosion worry you now that your stripping the all the vegitation with deep roots off the slopes?
@bill-winkeКүн бұрын
The roots are still there and in many cases the stumps are still alive. So all we lose is the dissipating effect of the leaves. But within just a few months the ground vegetation kicks in and fills the gaps. So I guess I am not worried about erosion.

Bill, how about using a light going in in the dark? I think a lot of guys blow deer out they never knew were there using a headlamp going in. If i have to use a light, i cup it in my hand pointed at the ground(green or red), only opening my hand to let it shine a bit enough to see my trail going in. On private, i also keep my trail raked clean so it's dead quiet going in. I even stalk in in the dark using this method and have walked right into deer on the trail. They usually don't spook, sometimes I get within 20 feet of them before they shuffle off.
@bill-winkeКүн бұрын
I don't use a light at all, but back when I did, I did what you say and kept it pointed straight down. Now, I just wait until gray light when I can first see the ground and then go in fast. It seems to spook a lot less deer than crunching in during the dark. Thanks for the comment.

Yes, we will get that next time. Actually, the neighbor's son-in-law is a professional arborist and he dropped by a low flow backpack sprayer so we can apply the oil based Garlon 4 mixed with diesel fuel right to the bases of those stumps where the shoots are coming out - no more cutting.

@bill-winke I was thinking more with the weed whacker. I used the blade on my Echo and wear safety glasses to avoid branches poking me and rocks and stones flying around. Face shield would probably be better I guess.

Hey Bill, love the show! Seems like the overall quality of bucks on the farm is steadily rising for you. Do you attribute this to habitat improvements or less pressure/less harvesting of younger bucks now that you own it?
@American_Regular2 күн бұрын
Awesome video and great tips about taking things to the extreme. Bill, please get yourself some Stealth Strips to silence your stand and climbing sticks. Hard to hear a lesson about being quiet while watching you with all that stand and stick metal exposed.

I appreciate it, but I can't remember ever spooking a deer with stand or stick noise. Most of the time I hang my stands well in advance (when I can) but when I go in to hang a stand and then stay to hunt it I always use screw in steps because they are easier to carry. Thanks for the comment.
