I love that we are finally seeing the results of everything Denji went through for all his life. It is just such a realistic character development. In fiction characters who go through hard times always come stronger, they become heroes and lead the weak to victory and deliver justice. In real life people who go through hard times are just broken, they can't fix their mentality and suddenly become a functional individual by working really really really hard and cry screaming for 5 minutes. They are often uncertain what life will give them and feel lost as to why they are just that way, why they just can't function as they want to. In Denji's case, he pretty raised himself in some trashy cabinet in the middle of nowhere with no guidance at all, he was then manipulated into pursuing his carnal desires by Makima (and partly by Himeno if we are being honest). He grew up just dreaming of jam on bread and later was literally groomed. He was taught to pursue things that would be harmful to him in the long term in his most transformative years. In a way Fujimoto portrayed accurately how childhood trauma and grooming affect people in their adulthood. Defensive coping mechanisms that make it possible for children to survive are not always healthy, it seems Denji is finally realizing that. I really like this side of Tatsuki Fujimoto. His characters always have very realistic character developments. Like how Denji just can't give up on his life as Chainsaw Man even though he knows very well he should be content with his life as Denji. Like how Asa is afraid of both solitude and companionship. Like how Aki is one of the most skilled and professional Public Safety devil hunters, but he too struggles emotionally not solely because of what he has gone through but also because of what he wants to have (like going out with Makima in the beginning of the series). Like how Kobeni just has no direction in life with her abusive parents forcing her to either put her life in danger or sell her body, causing her to have intense anxiety at all times. I could go on and on about how every Chainsaw Man character is realistically influenced and shaped by their pasts, their goals, and their ideals. Fujimoto writes his characters in the same way in all his mangas. That's why he is my favorite mangaka of all times, despite his small bibliography so far. Anyways, Fire Punch > Chainsaw Man.

Does this mean the character has no purpose or meaning? re-read the manga and you will understand that Denji grew up in a garbage heap all his life and could only dream of a bun with jam.
