How does the size of the real throttle compare to the new thrustmaster one? I have a feeling the thrustmaster is too small but having never fingerfucked a real one I have no way of knowing. Either that or I have giant hands.

@@lc2144 they’re all about the same size, honestly. Only the winwing is a little big because they based theirs on the JF17 throttle.

I would recommend for the outer skin use a thick felt and staple it down and pull it tight and go a long till it's done then fiberglass resin over the felt to harden it up. Then sand and paint if you want to do that.

@@BlackSockRepublic the TQS was not complete, and it's not obviously easier for me. On the other hand, i can still program it with foxy 😊 if you find the spdbrk or dgft switches are doing wrong on the original cougar, you just need to give it some love and WD40 🤗

Beautiful picture and I wonder how you did it …did you use OBS or the Nvidia recorder?it looks like you’re using a single eye picture from your VR headset… the big question is how the hell did you adjust the contrast and brightness of your HUD because mine is very faint and I’m using a Pimax crystal. @@hesynergy yeah I used OBS, unsure of your HUD issue. The intensity is adjusted via the UFC, I’ve never owned a crystal so idk if that’s a headset issue. I’m also using one of the color filters built into the sim accessible from the options menu. Hope that helps!

With no budget restrictions you might want to look up the SimGears F16 ICP Pro - it uses the original Otto switch for the dobber. Hope I can afford it one day... BTW, love your videos, keep them coming!!

So, for the idiots like me that are lazy and slightly more broke/less autistic, which of the non-ssc style bases would you say comes closest? Desk/chair mounts are order of the day for me and I'm far too dumb to mess with Njoy stuff. If it doesn't get recognized in DCS keymapper when I plug it in I'm basically hosed. Yes, skill issue on my part. No, it's not likely to improve without brain implants

@@wash_out the rhino software is top notch. The FFBeast has more force which really attracts me but the software isn’t there… moza is the same force as the rhino, and so is the winwing base… worse still, the winwing base ONLY accepts winwing sticks 🙄🙄🙄 so that’s dead on arrival for me. So far, the rhino is the only show in town as far as I’m concerned.

Nice work man! If I may suggest, try a paint roller and brush on the other console if you haven't done it already, it'll save you a few spray cans and then you can finish it up with spray paint for the final color or do that again with a roller ;) a white base of wood primer will fill in nicely the grains & small imperfections and it's an easy color to cover up with a smaller amount of paint than the brown color of the wood

An excellent trick with mdf is to brush on Shilac and let it dry, probably 2 coats. This will seal it and act as a primer. Then you can paint it with a lot less paint because it won't act like a spunge soaking up the paint. Just don't knock over the can of Shilac on the driveway. Don't ask me how I know. Well, I may as well tell you. I was shilacing my ejection seat for my Harrier. Instead I accidentally shilaced the driveway when my foot knocked over the can. I had a nice 8 foot shiny spot on the driveway for 1 1/2 years before it finally weathered off! 😂

It's probably too late to help you, but might help someone else; fibre board absorbs spray paint, hence why you had to use so much (probably took forever as well). A quick coat of a wall/ceiling paint with roller and brushes as a sealer before rattlecan top coat(s) would really have helped here, and you'd end up with a more even finish as well. Otherwise, looking good! Interested to see it all come together

3:23 Im looking at dipping my toes into VR for the first time, dont want to break the bank. Have you tried other headsets like the Reverb G2 or Pimax 5k? Valve Index seems legit but I do hear about that dead pixel problem a lot.

@@crankfotton the index is ancient by today’s standards. The reverb is getting long in the tooth. The Pimax crystal… light? I think? And the varjo aero are the 2 mid range headsets to look at now. The meta quest 3 dominates the low end market. I need to redo this video; so much has changed already.

So it's 2024 and I'm that guy legitimately considering buying a Thrustmaster throttle. Hear me out, I want to dedicate myself to learning the A-10c, but I want my hotas to be as close as possible to the Warthog for ease of learning. To the best of my knowledge, nobody but Thrustmaster makes a A-10 throttle grip?

@@DingoTactical eeehhhhhhhhhh I’d go with winwing’s F15 throttle. The E one, not the EX. The a10c actually has the throttle from a mudhen and the stick from the f16 because the Air Force hates the a10 and didn’t wanna spend money on new stuff for the a10 when they upgraded a to c

From what I can tell the only differences regarding button mapping are the comms switch and speed brake are swapped, and there is an additional hall effect wheel that would normally be used for radar angle?

@@DingoTactical the winwing wins by default because the TM’s have such awful issues. The pinky switch is shitty and dies. The slew is garbage; apparently they’ve updated it but no guarantee you get an updated unit. The throttle axis themselves die over time. Overall poor internal construction. The winwing isn’t exactly a Gucci unit, but at least it’ll hold up for you for longer.

They are practically the same when it comes to throttles, If you fly more the A10 go thrustmaster have had mine for 8 years no problems, also have the wing wing and its also great. Sorry but I really question how people treat their gear that after a year their stuff is broken.

@@scottericksonwasted well yes but actually no. The thrustmaster warthog throttle is woefully inadequate in a few ways. First of all yes - you could put all the real switches into a TM throttle but that would be lipstick on a pig for 2 reasons. 1. They have cancer. All the throttles suffer from a drift issue that will affect all units eventually and it isn’t fixable 2. They’re too short… they need to be extended to match the real thing; warthog project made some but they’re too long. They need to be a tad shorter. You could put real switches in it, but they’re also INSANELY expensive to buy a la carte from Otto or mason - especially the slew. Although delta sim is working on a force transducer that will work in it. A guy did put real switches in a TM throttle already, if you care to see how he did it and how expensive it is. Search the eagle dynamics forums for it.
