I didn't recognize that was George singing, at first. Really beautiful vocals.

I read the report of the tragic shooting, I find it hard to understand how someone can ask for his autograph then hunt him down later shooting him in the back like that. Some fans took it really hard and committed suicide. We lost a maestro that day.

It's a great rock performance of an old Bolero song that was already 30 years old when this recording was made. I also love the King Cole Trio version from 1944 (a seriously good band).

They seem to be following the arrangement by Emile Ford (and the checkmates) a West Indian recording in London at the end of the 50's, probably best known for Why D'you Want to Make Those Eyes At Me For. He was also a pioneer in Audio Recording and sound staging. Check out his version, it's good!! Extraordinary the vast and eclectic range of music the Beatles took on!!

Too bad the Beatles did not record this cover for an early album as the recording here is muddy and makes it difficult to hear the nuances of the instruments and Lennon's vocal. For beat bands covering this song, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders did a great job and is the best I've heard.

This is not the Glyn Johns mixed version from 1970. He omitted the teenage girl fans voices. This is the 1968 World Wildlife Fund mix- I think it was by Geoff Emerick.
@gringo55727 күн бұрын
It is. It's from the box set listed as such. The WWF version you are referring to can be found on Past Masters, Volume 2. (There are a LOT of versions of this song.)
@dannyvine360527 күн бұрын
@ The 1970 mix by Gyn Johns never had the females fans voices on it. He omitted them. So this could be the 1968 mix instead. And yes, there are several mixed versions but all are distinctive from each other.
