The 00 Custom Banner? The orange is a drop zone. Click the drop zone well in the inspector and choose an image from your timeline or from the browser. Usually this would be a still graphic like a logo or a flag that you wish to add a wave and text to. But it could also be a stock still of a banner graphic. Anything really. You’ll find the same thing in the effects browser where it’s easier to apply as an effect and not necessary to choose via a drop zone. But it doesn’t have any text as an effect. My apologies if these weren’t covered. They were last minute bonus additions and are in no way the main focus of the product as they don’t even include a banner. You have to provide the banner for the custom effect or custom banner. They function exactly the same (except for the drop zone selection) so the controls for wave, shading, outline, shadow, etc don’t differ from the instruction in the tutorial.

@@bretwilliams Thanks for the response. I'm trying to create custom-text that waves while a normal video plays behind it. The problem I'm having is, if I click something from the drop zone, the video starts waving too like the text, and both are waving together. I'm trying to have video play behind the waving text, not have a still graphic wave along with the waving text.

@@TheFujiwujiit was designed to create waving banners (with text). BUT, just create your text any which way you like, and add the custom banner effect and you’re golden. The custom banner effect is essentially just a wave effect plus outline and shadow and texture options.

If you want to use the custom title instead, you’d just have to put something transparent in the drop zone. Put anything in the timeline and make it completely transparent and use that as the drop zone source. You can delete from the timeline after choosing it.

@@bretwilliams Thanks, again. Two things... 1) I don't see anything called a "drop zone" in my Final Cut Pro console when I try to use the effect, and 2) I tried adding something transparent in the timeline (I use a random piece of video and turn the opacity to 0% to make it transparent) and when I select it as the "source clip" for the banner it then shows the random clip at 100% opacity, masking the original video that I'd like to use. Additionally, every time I select "source clip" using the custom banner my timeline cursor freezes and I have to re-start FCP. So nothing seems to be working to get waving text to work over a video background.

@@BretFX I think it took 12 years to get audio cross fades and maybe 12 1/2 for the scrolling timeline. Rulers are probably coming very soon. Haha.

What animation have you set? All you need to do is to go to the first frame of your title and change a parameter. Like position or scale, etc.

I have plans to create more overlays elements for all NLEs, but no plans to create actual plugins or templates for anything but FCPX. My skills are lacking or rusty for sure!

Everything in the titles browser IS a title. You don't apply them to a title. As with any FCP title you'd drag them to your timeline, select them, and then open the inspector (cmd+4) and adjust any available parameters and text. Often you can edit text directly in the viewer. As for effects, you would drag an effect from the effects browser directly onto a title and then adjust int he inspector. Outline would be a good example. It would add an outline around your text. Then you could add an extrude effect next. Drag that to you text with th outline and it would then appear extruded in 3D space. And so on. You could drag a twirl effect to a title to twist it. Or a wriggle effect to give it some random position movement. Etc.

Unfortunately no. But don't copy and paste the parameters. Instead just copy and paste the title itself. Then just enter the new text. Even if Apple were to implement title presets, I think it would be an entire title, not parameters, and you would have to enter the new text. Really wish they'd implement title, transition, and generator presets in similar fashion to the "save EFFECTS preset" function.

The name of the "Sunrise" font is Yellowtail. A similar font comes with FCP called Sauber Script.

Yes. Each line has its own specific timing. They can come on at the same time, in any order, etc. So if an item takes up two lines then it takes up 2 of the available 10 lines.

HTH. There is no "registering" as the next bullet. Just 10 lines, and 10 timings.

Yes, it works natively with 16:9. Whether it be HD or 4k. My apologies if I specified HD. So timeline needs to be 16:9 (there are a handful of 9:16 templates included as well) and 16:9 footage works natively. If you have vertical footage or non -16:9 footage or photos you need to add it to your timeline and compound it before adding the Splitz effect. HTH!

The custom title? There’s an in duration slider. And if you need it slower than that provides you could slow down the speed of the compound in between the hold frames. Speed is also a factor of distance over time. So for example you don’t need them to slide in from off screen. They could just slide (or scale or whatever) a smaller amount. As long as they fade in looks great.

Yes. Not the individual points, but the position of the tracer shape as a whole, certainly.

First let me double check you’re asking me how to alter my competitor’s product…. Yup! 😂 And the basic answer is you don’t. The template you’re using is essentially a little plugin created in Apple Motion, with drop zones precisely placed and parameters published, etc for use in FCP. If you’re well versed in using Apple Motion, you might be able to duplicate and or add more drop zones and save as a new template, but honestly, that’s opening a big can of worms. Talk to Motion VFX and see if they have any advice or can alter it. HTH!

@@BretFX so basically all these Motion Array slideshow templates are limited to the very small number of included photos (drop zones)? In this case 12 photos, but most I looked at are similar. I don't understand how that could be enough photos for any slideshow. Seems like an oversight on their part to not include more. I'll probably have to use a different program/template for this project then but I'll check with Motion Array.

@@bladerealm124 perhaps. It would be quite unwieldy to use one with much more. The idea is usually you string together multiple templates. No just one for an entire timeline. A slideshow package you purchase often comes with multiple templates with varying looks and drop zone counts. Often the package includes transitions to add between them or you can use standard FCP transitions between them. Hope mVFX sheds some light!

I remember first coming up with the idea way back on a video I was editing when I saw how the (old) iPhone dealt with folders on the Home Screen. It split open the screen to show the apps in the folder. So I did that idea on a bullet list on a corporate video. But then Leno released his and I thought I guess I won't. But then everyone else seemed to so I made my version. I really like the technique for titles and bullet lists. So I'm copying Apple, not the other guys! I was just slow to market. 😀

@@BretFX I’ve been animating text in keynote then exporting to fcpx but getting it all to sync perfectly in time with my speech in fcpx has been such a time suck. I think Keynote has a bit more flexibility and there’s more advanced stuff you can do with it but your video has simplified the entire process by 1000% and I will be sticking to this method from now on
