Hello Bret - Thanks a lot for this, this is extremely helpful and I didn't know that there's a plugin for split screens before, I got this as a giveaway by Brad & Donna, I just installed it now and yet to try it but it's so great to see that there's a tutorial here on your channel, I'll surely be checking this out again soon so I surely had to subscribe and also watch for your great videos in your channel. You are an absolute savior, I used to do a split screens manually, so you can imagine how much time I spent in doing that. This plugin is everything. 😍😍😍 I love you so much, happy holidays from Thailand and be safe. 💜💜💜

Thanks so much! I need to put out more general tutorials. And plugins! So much to do, so little time as they say.

Thanks you so much! I think we hit all the requests and then some. The Grid Customizer is the hidden gem of the lot IMO.

Excellent plugin. It seems really powerful. I hope to use it to make my short title sequence for my KZbin channel.

You say it’s a HD clip, does it work with 4k?
@BretFX Жыл бұрын
Yes, it works natively with 16:9. Whether it be HD or 4k. My apologies if I specified HD. So timeline needs to be 16:9 (there are a handful of 9:16 templates included as well) and 16:9 footage works natively. If you have vertical footage or non -16:9 footage or photos you need to add it to your timeline and compound it before adding the Splitz effect. HTH!

Hi Bret, I bought this plug the other day and have put it to use already in a production, it's great. My question is, for multicam editing, how would I switch the shot in one of the panels. I have a project for all my shots synced, then copy pasted the necessary shots from that into a new timeline, applied splitz, created a compound, brought that back into my compilation and used it as an angle in my shot selector. How would I switch just one of the shots in that splitz? I realize it's a complex question to phrase or explain but wondering if you could advise? Thanks!

I think you might be overcomplicating things. The common way to use split screen effects for a multicam shoot is to create your multicam as normal. Then duplicate the multicam above itself on the timeline as many times as you have angles. On each of those multi cams, choose a different angle by right clicking and choosing the angle. Then apply splitz to each multicam as if they were regular clips. You get the benefit of using Splitz to choose which pane, and you can always right click on the clip and choose a different angle. Best of both worlds. HTH!

Can you do something simple, like one clip on the left, one on the right, and then adjust the angle and thickness of the line that separates them? As well as slide the separation bar left/right?
@BretFX3 жыл бұрын
Not really because this isn’t a template with a drop zone on the left and right. It’s an effect you’d apply to clip one and clip two. Since effect 1 doesn’t know what effect two is doing, you’d have to adjust one clip, then the other.. You CAN however apply effect 1, adjust the scale and border width and angle, then copy that and apply it to clip two and switch to the other pane. But that’s a lot of work and not really useful for easily making adjustments. The better workaround I can think of would be to leave the lower clip unaffected. Then put the 2x1 effect on the upper clip. Then you could adjust it and the lower clip would just show through. Essentially doing what you’re looking for.

@@BretFX Thank you for the clarification. I have purchased Splitz 2. I just know it'll come in real handy. 👍
@BretFX3 жыл бұрын
@@generic_official it's super handy! Even if you don't need split screens, you can set the customizer to 1x1 (no split) and utilize it for the 15 different in/out animations, outline features (it'll outline anything that has transparency, like a green screen or text or logo, etc.). I'm going to make a Grid Customizer tutorial at some point that will cover more in depth.

great! going to get this. @ 7 minute mark- you're not lining up the clips- doesn't that mean the audio will be out of sync? thanks- hope i was clear in my question
@BretFX3 жыл бұрын
There’s no audio in these clips. Just a visual example. If you had clips that need to be in sync you’d of course get the clips in sync then trim to taste to have the effects come in in an offset manner, all at once, etc. In a music video you’d in all likelihood have a master track as well. You could also use a multicam clip, duplicated 4 times on top of itself. And then choose different angle for each instance, and then apply Splitz. Lots of ways. HTH!

from the look of the tutorial I like the drop zones on this plug-in because scaling in painting the image inside the drop zone does not affect the size of the actual image itself Some of the drop zone's out there today you start scaling up the inner image in it affects the whole thing and that drives me crazy especially that one European VFX creator Does limiting my ability to fine-tune where I want that image to scale and ultimately be visible at If that makes any sense I'm going to buy this because it looks like it has the functionality I'm looking for
@BretFX2 жыл бұрын
That’s great. Just understand the drop zones are really a background option for the frame. Not the image in the frame itself. The image would be whatever clip you apply the effect to. You’d likely only use the drop zone as a background image for something with alpha like a green screen subject or animation, etc.

If you wanted to keep the same split screen effect in place, then have the content of each cell update with different scenes, what would be the best approach?
@BretFX2 жыл бұрын
You could either edit a sequence into a compound and add the Splitz effect to the compound, or just stack up the layers with cuts and copy and paste the same Splitz effect between the clips that should be the same pane. HTH!
