What I have found is that Alex caulk has a very long shelf life. I am using a couple tubes from 1990, 34 years old, and it is fine. Maybe it is because it is water based.
@HousesBuiltTiny
@HousesBuiltTiny 16 күн бұрын
@@DAS-Videos the older Caulks used to last forever. But over the last 10 years they started removing the VOCs. So now not only is only guaranteed for a one year from manufacture date to use date. But all latex-based paints are only one year as well. That doesn't mean they can't last longer. But there's no guarantee after one year

@@HousesBuiltTiny I was using my 34 year old tube today, it was a little thicker than normal but fine for filling in holes and cracks in wood siding, which is what I was using it for. It's sad that they keep making products to not last long. Not just in the caulk/paint area. We seem to be a throw away society these days. I do have some old latex paint from HD, about 7 years old. I will have to test it to see if it's still good or not. PS thanks for the great tip about checking the dates of products when we buy them.

It is on the bottom outside of the tube. But it's a code only Dap knows. They probably didn't want people leaving the old tubes in the store.

It's the number, out of 365, day. For example 031 is January 31, 032 is February 1st. 322 is November 18. Can google Day of Year Chart. And by clicking 'More' in the video description it shows that he uploaded this video on May 31, 2017.

That's what I had in mind for my tiny shome and it will stay when I build the tiny house and the shome becomes office space. My fridge will stay in the concrete safe room that sits under a huge shade tree. I appreciate the explanation of how to get the plenum done right. I don't agree with the mounting location and the subsequent intake duct location but it is your design and pretty permanent so what's done is done and it is more satisfactorily done than custom fitting the unit into a wall. I like mini splits for their efficiency. If they come up with a better delivery option than the current air handlers then I would be happier with them. In my opinion , the unit should be mounted on, or just around the corner of the longest wall and at the highest possible point. The cooling port should be the most direct to the conditioned space is it provides what is needed at the temperature that it most needs to be. The return air can be piped along the wall crown, from the opposite end of the longest wall and not insulated from temperature changes. It can be drawn with a low-wattage, DC puller-fan. The end result is a unit that is more efficient but still not on par with a mini split system. Just to be clear. I would not have considered the importance of area matching and the deflectors within the plenum if not for hearing it from someone who thought that detail through and it will save people on electrical energy usage and premature failure of their AC units.

why do you put the skids underneath the metal platform? Couldnt the metal platform with the house on it be transported without the skids? Are the skids just a way to fasten the house to the trailer because the trailer you use has this 3.5/3.5inch beam grabber? Are there other use for these wooden pressure treated skids?
@HousesBuiltTiny
@HousesBuiltTiny 7 ай бұрын
Yes for transport. Most of the trailers are at most 6'7 wide. So it's just easier to slide them on and off of the lowboy trailer

How are the jacks connected to the metal frame?
@HousesBuiltTiny
@HousesBuiltTiny 7 ай бұрын
I really wish I had taken more time I explain the design on this. But we welded plates onto the backs of the jacks and we welded heavy wall pipe to those plates. Then we did a saddle and heavy wall pipe of a different ID to match the OD very closely of the jack pipe. And then we drilled holes at 90° angles through the pipes to run our very tight pin. All the pins have to be tight and all the pipe within a pipe needs to be tight or you get a lot of wobble
@dextrovmo
@dextrovmo 7 ай бұрын
Exactly the info I needed. Thanks a lot. The only thing id be scared is the jack you are using appears (from my understanding) not meant to have such a side load. How do you navigate the risk of bending the jack (or worst collapsing it with the house over it)? Or is this jack manufactured for side load? Id be keen on getting the same one you are using as it appears to work for you. Any chance you can share the model name of this jack? @@HousesBuiltTiny

I know this video is old, But an alternative to modifying the control board, is to buy a smart remote hub, like the broadlink rm4 pro, and put that infront of the IR port on the AC. you can then wirelessly control the unit from inside.

This looks so interesting! I have a job I’d like your advice on. My ceiling has some exposed wood trusses that used to be sprayed in popcorn, we’ve removed all that and I’m looking for something to coat the truss studs with do you think this will stick ok? The popcorn did but got water damage and had to remove, I don’t want to go that route again.
@HousesBuiltTiny
@HousesBuiltTiny Жыл бұрын
Yes this would stick. But the easiest way to apply it would be first to coat your exposed wooden beams with a water-based primer. Then go ahead and use a hopper and spray whatever text you want on the ceiling. I like to use a soft knockdown texture

We converted a 42 seat passenger shuttle bus last year into a traveling tiny house. It had a fantastic air conditioning and heating system in it already we just fixed the system that was there that ran off the diesel engines. Those are super super efficient. But of course you have to leave your engine in idle which it is designed to do. But it was more for traveling than it was for staying long-term anywhere. Insulating it was a booger bear but it turned out pretty fantastic.
