Really enjoyed the video, loved this game as a kid. One tip..! At around 9:20 in the video you mention the only way to discover the holes in the floor is via trial and error. And that is what I thought at first too (for years at that!). But it turns out that there is a way to tell. Notice that each part of the floor that you clip through has an unusual out of place dot at the bottom of its pattern/design. This indicates a false floor ;)

My god... Ya right! Damn that right there would have made my life a whole lot easier. I played this game for like two weeks until I finally beat it and these floors caused me endless pain and suffering.

This game is an early masterpiece. It aged better in my opinion, but I get your points on matrix combat. The grind is fine, to me. A modern game made like this would do so well. I wish the newer Shadowrun games weren't turn based.
@DoctorSledgehammer

Hi Ravum, I fully agree that this game is what a Shadowrun game should look like. It perfectly represents the boardgame and the Shadowrun rulebook. I believe developers would have done the Shadowrun community a favor, should they have developed this formula further to iron out stuff like the matrix and the overly grindy nature of the game. And as I said, the storyline is the games biggest weakness, it should be engulfing every aspect of the game, kinda like modern games are doing it, with options to go out and grind. I believe a sequel would have also ironed that out and as another comment said (I believe you answered him), they might have run outta time and fell short in the story aspect.

Watching this review made me want to go back and replay the game. Loved how each stage had so many hidden sidequests and powerups. I remember being aggravated by the police car training maneuvers because I probably wasn't very good at driving. And it just felt nice being a good cop in a city full of corruption and crime, and doing your best to try to stop bad things from happening, both big and small.

this is one of my favorite genesis games. i love the atmosphere and general sense of unpredictability. the difficulty was always its weakpoint to me. thankfully there is a mod that balances the game out a bit and makes it more fun to play. its called the shadowrun 2058 mod. give it a try sometime.

Love me some shadowrun. I got into it MUCH later around 2005🤯 i bought both copies complete for 20$ each. Yeah that was before the big retro game gold mine boom. The shadowrun returns is a great game too. Cyberpunk 2077 can kick fuckin rocks. And along with the 2007 shadowrun 360 title. Goddammit what a disappointment.😂

The Genesis version of Shadowrun wasn't started until after the FASA executives saw a build of the SNES version and didn't like the engine, so they had a team rapidly throw together a story for the Genesis. The actual gameplay is basically the Shadowrun Second Edition rulebook as a real time game, which is fairly impressive.

An honest review brother, I liked how you presented the ideas combined in a cool humor. The game really is a living legend, I remember the hundreds of hours spent in it, and it is very important that it is forgotten, not everyone knows of its existence, and this denotes the lack of interest on the part of the players. I will stay true to the Oni game, and it will always be a masterpiece, no matter what others say about it. Gits inspired the game but not the story, everyone says the same nonsense, as if the game is a copy of the anime, in fact, it has some "borrowed" ideas, but it's not copy-paste! Good luck in everything you do!!!

Thanks mate really appreciated. I must say I hated the PS2 version so much, I couldn't see myself making a video about it. I totally forgot how the PC version looks/plays until I saw a KZbin video of the game and started remembering. I had to delay the episode an entire month because I replayed the entire game while simultaneously spending all of my time renovating the apartment you saw in the intro.

It's ironic that you said that this was before everything was about politics. A few years ago I found an Internet thread from 2000 where a guy complained that Longest Journey was "shoving politics down his throat" because there was a minor lesbian character and that he was enjoying the game up to that point and that he now hated the game because of it lol

@@DoctorSledgehammeryeah as much as I hate what gaming has become, it was an amazing time in the early 2000s and early 90s. Fiona is great. I truly found her endearing. It’s funny how you can find people complaining as you go backward in time and go “is that all that’s in there?! Oh thank god!” It really makes you appreciate what you had before.
@MerlinTheCommenter
@MerlinTheCommenter 5 ай бұрын
@MBM11117727 that’s normal. Go back in time: minor gripes about little things. Go forward in time: complaints cover more serious issues. I catalogue them in three piles: minor (non issue), workable, non-negotiable. DLC and other such things don’t bother me if the content I’m buying is good. Otherwise I’ll skip it. On the other hand, I don’t get paid to be lectured though, so I pass on games like that. As for Fiona, she’s a sweetheart. I could care less how much of a lesbian she is. It’s a college, fits perfectly.

The graphics were ahead of its time. Sure the poly count on the character models may be a bit low, but it is compensated by the size of the maps, and the high level of details like for instance, seeing leafs 🍃 on the ground + of the huge number of 3D asset that make the city feels alive was mindblowing. And the fact that the game used to runs on 1024x768 on my old woodoo 2 graphic card was a proof of perfect engine optimization. Everything else was also perfect, the gameplay (like mentioned in the video) the music, sound design, the dialogue writting, the dark rainy atmosphere, the sci-fi/ urban-fantasy twist, the level design, the exploration (I spend hours trying to explore each areas), etc all those part put together created something unique.

I have an undying love for this game and always wished to find similar games because the atmosphere and the combat were just so damn good. I was devastated when I learned that both this game and Oni had actual sequels in the pipeline that never got made. Oni is literally owned by a AAA company that straight-up forgot about the game. At least it has a better shot at a comeback than Urban Chaos, whose developers spread out to different companies. One of the goals of this channel is bringing awareness to forgotten game franchises that fucking slapped! I think I mentioned Urban Chaos in four different videos so far because it is one of my all-time favorites. A distant dream would be asking the developers personally why they are not trying to revive the franchise.

@@DoctorSledgehammer interesting. Thank you for the reply. I had initially bought this system when it first came out. I had a lag issue. Meaning that when I would push a button for say, Mario or sonic to jump, there will be a noticeable delay from the moment I push the button to when I would see action on the screen, and it drove me nuts because I could never played the game correctly without dying because of the lag lol. But I heard that these issues have been addressed with newer systems so I was wondering if you had experienced any issues when playing games like Sonic or Mario. Thanks so much.

TLJ certainly impressed me. I played the most notable adventure games on the DS and TLJ impressed me, will be one of my all time favorite. But I have to disagree on the shoes. At first I thought that the developers were just too lazy to model feet, so they made her wear socks to bed. But remember when she went back to Arcadia in her undies? The innkeeper only gave her the clothes and she was wearing the same shoes.
