Never heard of it before discovering it and I was rocking all sorts of games back in the 90s. I advise you to pick it up again, it is batshit insane. They do not make game like this anymore

I wouldn't call this a good game. But it was certainly I game I had to finish when I played it at 18 years old, on my Dreamcast.

So you admit that you were intrigued enough to finish the game. To me that sounds like it was a game good enough to deserve completion. Personally I loved this game. Of all the games I played in 2022 I consider this and Parasite Eve to be my favorite two.

@@DoctorSledgehammer It's all a matter of taste and I don't think any objective person would call Omikron a "good game" in general. Nothing really to admit in my characterization of it, I just don't want to give anyone the wrong idea. I enjoyed it and certainly wanted to find out what happened next and the atmosphere of juvenile sci-fi mystery and eeriness was right up my ally at the time. I'm just not able to romanticize the things I enjoyed as a kid or revel in any kind of nostalgia as such. Not sure why. I remember enjoying it but that memory and feeling isn't something I'm chasing today or trying to relive. I can't help but put in current terms vs the place and time that would be fair to compare it too. I certainly found it to be an achievement at the time though. Especially as someone who had a fairly powerful PC back then.

Omikron and many games from that era have e.g. Urban Chaos... have received a bad rep because some KZbin reviewers who copied AVGNs formula too much, gave games a bad rep. Omikron is considered by many to be "the worst game ever made" or the "cursed game" because of popular KZbinrs who burry games. I disagree with these labels for Omikron. To me it was a masterpiece and I stated in the video why I think so. Of course, not every game is for everyone but I did objectively say why I believe it was a good game, and mind you I went in blind, having never heard of the game before. So yeah agree to disagree mate hehe.

@@DoctorSledgehammer I'm sincerely glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed the video. by the standards of the time (especially on Dreamcast), it was a pretty amazing game. I think I started playing it after I gave up on a game called Blue Steel, which was an absolute steaming pile of poo. That's what I'm saying though. At the time, Omikron was really going for something special and unique. and it succeeded for those who actually played it at the time. If you can play that game today and enjoy it after everything that's come since, more power to ya. I would never try to convince someone they're wrong for enjoying anything that didn't hurt someone else. I recently tried to play Advent Rising, thinking the story would carry me through the gameplay since I thought it was pretty great when it came out. My memory of that game was pretty shoddy though. After really trying for a couple hours, I just couldn't take it. Same for Mass Effect LE. That game has been one of my all-time favorite series and I played through the entire series 3-4 times from release to 2015ish. I just started again earlier this year and the terrible level design and combat just couldn't sustain a complete playthrough for me.

@@mrspaceman2764 Enough games for all of us mate, that is the beautiful thing about being a gamer. Personally, I never managed to get into COD, Battlefield, or the Assassin's Creed series. And what you describe Advent Rising happens to me all the time, especially since I am spending a lot of my time nowadays, looking for suitable games for videos. You watched my video, so you should know that I am not just reviewing the game, I am trying to pay tribute to the games I review, which is why I need something that clicks with me, otherwise, it will be a really boring episode. Lemme tell you, I had a mountain of games I played for a couple of hours before quitting them in the last two years. And you are correct, the shitty game you tried before often has an incredible influence on how you feel about certain games. Something that really comes to mind, when speaking of games I had to quit because the story couldn't carry me through bad gameplay is FF13. I love the storytelling aspect of FF games, but FF13 has horrendous gameplay and they even messed up the story - like 20 hours into the game I noticed that I do not know anything about everything and I was getting fed up with characters acting emo.

I remember it was clunky even when it was released, could only play it with mouse and keyboard, making the fighting scenes all the harder

I got this a couple of years after it came out. I think I've beaten it four time, the less time not long after the pandemic started.

Have you ever played Headhunter for Dreamcast? I think it was only released in Europe, but it was an amazing Dreamcast game. Highly underrated generally unknown game.

Hey Matic, never heard of it before you mentioned it, but it does look interesting. It is also on the PS2 I noticed. I should start to make a list of weird games like this because they are right up my alley.

Haha alrighty mate. I would argue that we see by the year 2030 if we still own anything. But yeah imo it is technically a theory until you see people conspire to actually make it happen. Certainly it is an agenda for some folks, but there are all sorts of MFers out there that demand insane stuff.
