Great ride! I live near there and always wondered about that stretch of river. I hope you go further downriver from 301. I'd love to know more about that bit. Sounds like it might be dicey, given all the downed trees.

You know the stars could never be mapped and used to navigate on a turning globe Earth and solar system. The numerous rotating velocities and stars and galaxies said to be moving in the same manner would result in a constantly changing sky clock.

I walked from the RV Campground to the visitor center, then the boardwalk trail over to the main road then almost to the swim beach and back tracked. About 10,000 steps. That was plenty for me in upper 80s. And I'm 70 years old lady added to the mix. Definitely bring bug spray and water to hydrate. Interesting video young man!

Thanks for the video. I'm looking to hike this in early November. Your video confirmed my two concerns, water and the need to carry it up steep climbs. I think I will carry an extra bladder to fill up at the north river. Did you start at the north river gap parking lot and hike counter-clockwise?

That is maybe 1/3 mile above falls. Not counting the river crossing AT the falls, this is right at the 2nd crossing (right back to left) as you head upstream. And there's a really nice camping spot here on the left side of the river (going upstream).

No crabs this far up - this is pretty fresh water, we put in at Governor's Bridge Park in Bowie. River doesn't start getting tidal until down around Jug Bay. It was nice, but if I do it again I'd try and start earlier and make it to either Queen Anne or Wooten's Landing.

I have questions about the st Marys wilderness hike, where did you camp and where were the watering holes on a map? it was your hike in 2017
@FlyingSquirrelOutdoors
@FlyingSquirrelOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
The trail up into that gorge isn't very long - maybe 2 miles each way. But (at least at that time) no camping is allowed downstream of the falls. We camped about a half-mile above - there are good sites near the next river crossing upstream of the falls. The best hole (where we were jumping into a narrow slot off the rocks) is 1/4 mile above the falls.

I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California overlooking Silicon Valley. We have 3 or 4 GHOs hooting up a storm nearly every night. They aren't asserting territorial dominance--they are communing with each other across a vast ravine of native California Live Oak forest. The land is vast up here and there's room for many owl families to raise their young. It's beyond words awesome when they start their hooting at night
