Currently considering one of these guitars man, it looks like you are really enjoying playing that and no doubt the wood is beautiful. The one I’m looking at has that chocolate fretboard and I can’t even pronounce the wood, but they are definitely unique and I was looking for a lighter Guitar and since they are a little thinner, I don’t know. I just happen to run across one and it looks like it was truly never played. It’s an excellent condition. The bridge was a bit strange to me on it however it is an amazing guitar truly impressed and I don’t understand why these did not carry any weight or sell better than they did. I am confused as to why the value on them is set so low the 1299. I am paying for this one that I’m going to buy certainly is worth the money the guitar is truly perfect. There’s only a few pick marks there’s not even checkering where your hand would rest around the bridge area at least mine does on all my guitars so it just shocks me truly that they don’t have more value either way. I guess some people just believe in tradition but I think this is an awesome opportunity Guitar for people out there, especially with the economy being what it is I would never have enough guitars anyway so adding one that has a unique sound and putting some unique pickups in this would make it even more fun so looking forward to having a good time with this Guitar thanks for a great demo
@dylansmithguitarist384317 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. It certainly is a lovely guitar. When looking around, be sure to note whether or not it is a 'Standard.' The overwhelming majority of Smartwoods are the thinner, lower spec 'Studio' type. The Standard (with lamininated carved cap, body binding and trapezoidal inlays) are much less common and run for the equivalent of $4K in the UK at least. The Studios are much simpler guitars (much like the 'regular' Les Pauls), and are significantly cheaper and available - although still great guitars.

Fat 50s all the way they keep an even strong full sound all the way up the neck the texas were a bit like that but not so good, the 69s where OK around the 5th fret A position but went thin when you moved up the neck. I don't know what I have in my American standard Strat but I think I will replace with 50s . Thanks for the review it was great clean set up so we can hear what they real sound like
@iancurrie8844Ай бұрын
Came from the clean video. In that one I prefered the fat 50s but with gain I prefer the texas specials. 69s are good for nothin'. Muffled and without any brightness or high end. They must be for people who play a strat but wish they were playing something else.
@iancurrie8844Ай бұрын
To my ear, the 69s were my least favorite: by far. They are lacking in brightness and chime in the top end. They sound almost muffled and repressed. Between the other two: take or leave either one. They're both quite nice. Maybe a slight lean towards the fat 50s.

Great video! Nice to finally see someone play without a pick, just like me. I mean the Fat 50s just sound unreal! The 69s have that amazing vintage character but it seems like if you want to lay down some thick leads or finger style stuff, the fat 50s just seem to fill out the sound sooo much more! Amazing sound! Wish you could combine that thickness with the 69 character somehow, but... I'm thinking I'll go with the fat 50s! How did you record?

You even matched visually each guitar with its appropriate pickups: The red one 50s and Hank Marvin, or blues style, and the white body one psychedelic rock era. All are great and workable. Fats are very round, 69ers clean, sizzly and constrained due to lower output, Specials have both that low middy body and high middy honk, the most aggressive of the three. All top.

I was 17 when I first saw EC playing his Gibson Firebird I guitar. I always had an urge to get one as it left a huge impression on me as a young guitarist venturing into the rock and blues world. I'm now 73 and still playing but not gigging anymore. I have owned most types of Fenders and Gibsons (admittedly, I still have too many of both brands) but never had a FB I. Finally picked one up last year that is almost a dead ringer for the one in the video (but not a Custom Shop) and all I can say is... why the heck did I wait so long. I think I'll take this one to my grave. I'm sure I speak for many out there that picked up a guitar because they were inspired by you. Thanks EC for all the great years of music that you gave us.

Been using a Fender cable to connect my Lowden with baggs anthem pickup, to my fishman loudbox artist, for a few years, it sounded good to my ears, a bit muddy, and bass heavy, but I just thought that was what my guitar/amp sounded like. Tried a MOGAMI cable today, WOW ! I cannot believe how much better it is. The bass notes are clear and not over powering, the mids and highs balanced and no one note sounds louder than another, which was an issue with the old cable. Genuinely blown away.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It just goes to show what difference a decent cable makes. I have used these cables ever since the video. 2 gigs tomorrow (a Corporate Rugby League match and my album performance with the band in the evening) - and they'll be with me all day as always. I even keep a spare too! Thanks again 👍🎸

@@LysanderLH Signature Strats have a specific factory spec based on and/or ratified by the player, so vary from a 'Standard Strat' in numerous ways depending on the model. @@dylansmithguitarist3843 I have owned just six high end CS strats over the years (Custom Shops and a Gilmour: NAME DROP which I bought after playing David Gilmour’s Strat at his studio in Hove, as we were neighbours for many years) … and so far, i’m a strat guy. I get that sigstrats vary from std strats but they aren’t better than CS,or good Strats, just differently wired eg. HW CS Pups which imo aren’t better than those in my 1990 JVRI Squire, just different. I now own three Strats and a couple of Gibson Murphy Labs. Aside from cosmetic assaults aka relicing, roasted,¼ sawn, etc it’s more of a fetish than anything tangible and the differences, which do exist, are miniscule.

I've got a question...I see that you have 50s pickups in your rosewood guitar. I really want to put a set of Pure Vintage 57 pickups into a Vintera II 60s strat. Do you think this would be a good move, or a not so good move? I really prefer the 50s strat but a V neck is too large for my small hands. That's my reason for wanting to do the 50s pickups in a 60s strat.
@dylansmithguitarist38436 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. No reason why not. Strats are just so versatile and interchangeable (I built the guitar in this video entirely from parts). Matching the feel of one era with the sound of another is perfectly reasonable, and there's a great feeling in knowing your guitar is tailored to your preference. Have fun with it 👍

I found that the 70s strat sounded more clear. It was bright but not too bright. There's not a ton of videos comparing the 60s and 70s strats. I'm considering one if the new Vintera II models. I really want to like the 60s but my ears are telling me that the 70s will be more versatile. I mean, I can always tame the highs with the tone knob or roll off the volume for nice cleans. Do you have an opinion? I need versatility. Born in the 70s, I play ALL styles of music, soft rock, classic rock, country and alternative.

The 69 has a certain degree of airiness, or cloudiness, the best I can describe. Some people like that. Personally for me I find the clarity and wider balanced range in the Fat 50s appealing. The Texas has a mid-range presence that sounds cosy on clean tones, best played w a comforting cup of hot chocolate beside. Does reasonably well on clarity too. My vote goes to the Fat50s and Texas. Thanks you for your contribution to the strat community!

Thanks for watching 👍I find that for live work, the TS have more presence and bite. I can't get the '69s to work with vintage Fender amps - but better with modern, more neutral amps like my Artisan 30. The Fat 50s are nice for studio work, as they are more 'Stratty' and easier to get traditional sounds from (well balanced). Thanks again 🎸
