Polyglots by definition are arrogant and selfish, usually narcissist, they think that they are smart and everybody else is stupid. Even if they know they will never tell you the secret how to learn new languages faster. There are no shortcuts, minimum time for learning new language at basic level is 2 years(maybe more), learning new language at satisfying level is 5 years. ( Languages similar with your native language are another story). Everything else is a big lie !!!

Videos containing the notion of ”the oldest language” are generally not to be taken too seriously. As for this one, the main concept seems to be founded on the mainstream belief that the premiss to reconstruct a Proto-Indo-European language is manageable mainly from ancient languages such as Archaic Greek and Vedic Sanskrit, leaving crucial diverging properties of the arguably earlier Anatolian branch out of the picture. I believe that this is a rather dated - and even disputed - approach, and that it is due time to establish a more mature approach in the understanding of the origins of Indo-European lggs. Further, this non-updated approach relies heavily on the Kurgan hypothesis, which however popular it may still be, is not to be perceived as scientifically proved, as it is more of an archaeological standpoint than a comparative linguistical one. Interestingly, the founder of the Kurgan hypothesis happened to be a Lithuanian, namely Marija Gimbutas. Thus, it is susceptible that a nationalistic element might have found its way into Indo-European linguistics, which of course is to be taken into consideration as well.

Do you think this would work for a language like Mandarin? I can read and type at a freshman college level of mandarin, but only with a pinyin keyboard. If I were to handwrite a journal, I'd probably have to stop once or twice a sentence to look up the character's exact strokes

Hello! I have been learning English for many years since school age but deliberately I started studying English since last year. I can assume that my level of English is B1. And recently, maybe a week ago, I started learning Hindi. And I have noticed that when I write by my hand this beautiful Hindi letters I remember it more quickly.

@ no tak.. ja to wszystko rozumiem. Chodzi o wzajemne rozumienie ale w miarę rozwoju języka można zastępować słowa obce i szukać słowiańskich odpowiedników.

Informative lecture 👍 I did find mentions of some modern printed resources for Xiaoerjing, but realized that you need to physically be in Xian, Lanzhou, Xining, or wherever to buy them. Also, I think modern development on Xiaoerjing (even as far as inclusion of tones for beginners) will be positive if it ever happens. We have pinyin for Latin transliteration, why not arabic transliteration for learners from the middle east and south asia?

The Samoan word for clever ATAMAI sounds identical to the Japanese word for clever! ATAMAII (ATAMAGAII) Does that imply an influence by the Japanese colonisation during WWII or something else historically?
