@tracphonevirtualmagazine Жыл бұрын
I don't think there's really a problem in skateboarding. The clubs and cliques is what makes skating what it is.
@AlimDixon Жыл бұрын
@@tracphonevirtualmagazine There aren't in major problems in skateboarding but are structural problems. Although the skateboarding industry is more accessible than ever before their are still certain barriers to success that even the most skilled of skaters have to overcome. Their are plenty of extremely skilled (pro level) skaters that struggle within the bureaucracies of the industry. I understand that every extremely good skater can be pro but the industry has unnecessarily hard structures set up to find and nurture skill. So the problems aren't really in Skateboarding but in the skateboarding industry which is completely different
@tracphonevirtualmagazine Жыл бұрын
@@AlimDixon I think the skateboard industry is just fine the way it is. It works the way it's supposed to because it's more art and opinion driven than just raw athletics. You have to fit in to get in, and if you don't fit in you make your own thing or you find someone you fit in with. Like when Jamie Thomas helped Josh Kalis get on Toy Machine. Josh was really good but didn't like the vibe or music or general aesthetic of Toy Machine so he quit to smoke weed and skate with Lenny Kirk and that's how he got on Alien Workshop. I'm just saying without the politics of skateboarding all you have is the NBA and NFL where it doesn't matter your personality or creativity just how athletic you are.

The unspoken rule that if someone emphasizes they’re telling the truth they actually unload a bunch of unsubstantial bs works every time. Holy hell, how you can hate on Cariuma while using Nike as an example for a good skate company when they kinda did the same when coming into the scene. Because news flash, they weren’t a skate company to begin with either.
@AlimDixon Жыл бұрын
Nike wasn't a skate company but the products they created were being used for skateboarding. When Nike went into skateboarding they were able to provide a good product by building on the relationship the skateboarding community had with the shoe and through the use previous silhouettes. Cariuma however has zero connection to the skate community and more importantly provide a worse product at the end of the day. Nike is good because they contribute too and actively work to improve skateboarding and skate products, while Cariuma takes away from skateboarding makes subpar products
@datenschutzification Жыл бұрын
@@AlimDixon nike is accepted now but it took them several attemps to get there. Ppl seem to forget that they were hated first as well for the very same reason cariuma is now: having no connections to the scene. But admittedly, that was quite a while ago and most young skaters nowdays grew up with nike being part of skateboarding.

Had a pair. These shoes actually rip. They have amazing flick and board feel. They skate like a mix between a cup and vulc. If them being sus is the concern then I feel like comparing them to Nike doesn’t make any sense. Nike is famously capitalistic and terrible when it comes to environmental and human rights issues. They also dropped into skating out of nowhere and drove out core brands. Carriuma is owned by a surfer and a skater. It makes sense that they’d want to fuck with skating
@AlimDixon2 жыл бұрын
I agree, Nike is one the worst companies ethically when it comes to human rights and the did drop out of nowhere into the skateboarding community. I can't personally speak to your experience skating Cariuma, but I am happy you had a experience with the shoes. Unfortunately a lot of people had bad experiences with them as well. I feel that where when Nike came into skateboarding they contributed with the quality of their shoes and the cultural connection that already had and with the new one they worked to make (w/ nike sb dunk). In my opinion Cariuma doesn't bring anything good or on par with any other skate brand. Nike was forced to prove themselves & today they have proven to be a reliable skate shoes similar to any other brand like Emerica, Etnies, Vans, or Es. Cariuma just doesn't contribute much and are actually lowering the bar for skate shoes. To me Cariuma shoes seem almost like a scam to trick people in buying low quality shoes that aren't on-par with the market. Nike being the unethical company that it is brings a certain standard of quality with their shoes that every other skate brand does. Cariuma however has been shown not to do that. Im not saying that people shouldn't skate cariuma, skate whatever you like. From customer experience and market research done by myself and many others in skate community have shown Cariuma to be significantly lower quality product, than what you would find anywhere else. So to relentless promote while knowing that it brings no value, in my opinion thats wrong & dishonorable to do.
@adams.gestwicki52922 жыл бұрын
Alright, when Nike came into the skate industry... 20 or so years ago, it decimated skate owned shoe brands. Es was gone for awhile, they poached a lot of their team, and then they saturated the marketplace very much like Cariuma is doing now. Everyone hated Nike, and really it felt like a hostile takeover. The reason these shoes are worth trying: They actually are really comfortable, have way better insoles than the Blazers (frankly I think they feel like a mix of a blazer and van's old school), and they skate pretty well too. I was surprised and a hater until I put them on my feet. The big difference being their manufacturing and production standards are more ethical than Nike, New Balance, and Adidas, if we're comparing corporate brands that have entered the skate scene in the last 15-20 years. Of the three corporate brands mentioned above, Adidas is actually the only one to have transparent production practices, meaning they allow themselves to be audited by third party entities, and disclose where their materials come from, and how they're made. If anything, having a brand like Cariuma take a chunk out of profits from other skate brands, the production and labor practices might change for the better.
@AlimDixon2 жыл бұрын
I agree with like 90% of what you said. Nike & Adidas definingly weren't the good guys at the time. I wouldn't go as far as saying that they decimated smaller skate brands because the skateboarding scene was changing very rapidly & sporadically at the time. Ethically Nike is definitely not the best company & neither is adidas or any of the corporate company's for that matter. Nike & Adidas broke into the skate market, but they were eventually accepted b/c of the quality of their shoes and the relationships they cultivated while within the community. Today Nike SB is a major contributor in the community and brings good quality skate products like any other shop or brand. Cariuma on the other hand brings such low quality that its worst than most skate shoes and it actually hurts the market from how low quality they are. Thats my main problem with it. You have company that doesn't bring quality product & doesn't really contribute or connect with skateboarding community being presented as this type of "good" alternative for new skaters. In my opinion Cariuma uses predatory tactics to trick people into buying much much lower quality shoes thatn they would find anywhere and I mean anywhere else. Whether it be Nike, Emerica, Adidas, Etnies, or any one else that sells skate shoes. So for me I think about the quality, for Cariuma feels like a gotcha-style rug pool scam for young, new, and / or impressionable skaters that can be tricked into buying the worst of the worst in skate shoes. Right now if you buy any pair of skate shoes from any brand, you would get a certain standard of quality. But now that cariuma has entered the scene, I feel like now skaters have to worry about scam companies trying to beat them out of their money with garbage products. Cariuma in my opinion is making what I consider to be a positive & accepting community build on certain stands of fun and quality a much more predatory & scary place.
@adams.gestwicki52922 жыл бұрын
@@AlimDixon I honestly am blown away by how thoughtful of a response you gave. I will say I honestly can't say that the quality is lower than any other pair of skate shoes I've owned, and this is coming from someone who's 34 and has been skating since they were 11, so I've been around the block. I like my Valllely's and they are really fun to skate. End of the day, Cariuma has chosen a tactic that's very overt, in your face, and impossible to avoid. It definitely has shoved its way into the discussion for better or worse. Predatory may be a bit harsh, but I totally get your point and agree with it. It reminded me to research Sole Technology: Es, Emerica & Etnies. Honestly they do a lot to make sure their manufacturing standards and how they source their textiles is all above the current standard of most bigger shoe brands. Only difference is they don't really throw it in your face that way Cariuma does. I'll probably go back to just buying from them, as I love their shoes (Joslin Vulc with Michelin outsoles are nearly indestructible), and they're doing what they can to be thoughtful about how their shoes are made. Seriously thank you again for the thoughtful dialogue and response. Also your video was balanced with both sides of the argument on what to think about this brand, good or bad.

I'm glad you enjoyed video. I do want to skate the shoes and look in to them more, so that way I can have better grasp on it, a lot of my information was based on reviews and my personal observations. Many sports communities aren't able to do that & I feel that openness is truly something great about skateboarding. I can't speak for other people but for me, There are many skate companies that I dont like for various reasons. But each of those companies bring a certain amount of quality to the market and contribute in positive ways. Cariuma makes very low quality and doesn't contribute much at all to skateboarding. For it to be treated as reputable company is doing a disservice to the community. Its not a matter of preference because cariuma is much lower quality than even some of worst skate shoes. Leaders in the skate community encouraging people to skate cariuma is the same as telling someone to buy a scam nft and pretending its as secure an investment as doge or bitcoin. Its just taking advantage of peoples ignorance and intentionally giving them something bad for them.

Yeah, you have a point about the switch skills but I feel both P-rod and mark suicu are both pretty elite when it comes to switch. P-rod also isn't in his prime and comes from a different era of skateboarding. So its important to factor that in. Alot of your points are true but Janoski, Koston, Prod & Ishod all skate for nike & Mark Suicu skates for adidas. I don't think nikes are trash personally, it all depends on what shoe. some of the best shoes I've skated are Nikes. Personally I've skate vans & etnies shoes which are both great companies but I feel nikes basketball background allows them to provide more ankle support in their shoes especially the blazer mid which for me, makes feel more secure on my board and allows to pop higher & subsequently skate better.

So basically, you don't understand how business works. Businesses PAY people for their TIME and INFLUENCE to PROMOTE their PRODUCT. You can't really expect to prosper by asking everyone to do thing for free. The only time a lot of these people seem to be doing things for free is when someone like yourself basically uses their content to add length to his video and explain things because he can't. I don't really see very much of your own content in this video. I mean the only real opinion you have in your video is you saying that Nikes make you skate better. It's a little ridiculous because you don't even explain how they make you skate better. You don't speak about how they fit, the materials, the durability or anything that could or would make a person see better in them. When you say that maybe it's a Nike thing? You mean... Like magic? Come on bro. Are you just salty that cariuma didn't hit you up and pay you? I really don't have much of an opinion on cariuma, I was just trying to find out exactly what all the hype was about and how they started and I somehow clicked on your video first and now I'm wasting even more of my time by commenting. You have to have more of an understanding than what you're putting out in this video. Even if someone is on Flow for their local skate shop. They are getting "paid" with decks, wheels, bearings, griptape Etc come on man. Have you never done an English paper? This is how the world Works brother!
@AlimDixon2 жыл бұрын
I understand what your saying. I don't have any problem with skaters being paid with money or skate products to promote things, I feel that simply when someone is paid to promote a bad product that it is unethical and crosses than line between brand sponsorship and bribery. I feel it becomes bribery when you actively convincing someone that a bad product is good to their detriment. My problem isn't with skaters being paid for their work, I feel that is 100% good for skateboard. My problem is with bad actors like Cariuma exploiting the fact these skaters need get paid by using their influence to bribe them and hence forth make a quick buck off of selling skaters bad shoes. As for the whole Nike thing, it definitely isn't magic or nothing, I could've maybe went into a little more depth. The way nike makes their shoes they make with very light and firm material that kind of blend with your feet providing great board feel, while it kinda off blends to your feet. I simply noticed that Nike skate shoes that I've skated (Nike SB Blazers) feel much more natural than other shoe that I've skated. I'm not that Nike is the best or anything however out off all skate shoe companies we all can agree that if anyone had the money or resources to perfect the technology it would be Nike. I am going to do a part 2 sometime soon wear I actually buy the shoes and review them myself. So if thats something you wanna see you should subscribe.
