I know I'm late to the party on this video, but it's really good! Just a few tips for anyone coming by... During the transfer, You can put a backflow preventer on the return line to keep the serving vessel from sending liquid back up to the Fermenter (especially if it's smaller) allows gas to flow but floats a ball to close the line. Add a third keg, empty, after the starsan keg. Put your spunding valve on the gas post. Liquid to liquid starsan to empty. This will receive all the starsan and keep your fermenter at pressure, also keep pressure in the purged keg. 🍻

This is wonderful to see and compare with how I have started my bines. Thx for posting. Do you show a year’s growth and you hop yield in a subsequent video? I could learn from that, as I’m only in my second season or growth.

I am wanting to ferment next beer in a corny. Can you tell me how you added your dry hop addition(s)? Did you do so after a few days and and pop lid and drop in hops? Did you transfer to a purged secondary keg with the hops in it?

I intended to rig up the pool/cooling water for winter brews in Mississippi. Now that I'm in Idaho so I no longer have a pool, but tap water is quite cool here as you probably enjoy in NY winters also. Cheers

In my opinion, you mention ball lock and pin lock too often. It's distracting and for most of your viewers, saying it 1x would be enough.

If I'm only using one keg for fermenting, how long typically will it take to purge the keg with Star San in it? I've not seen this before and it looks like the two kegs pushing CO2 to the Star San keg will empty in no time. Thanks
@woodshedbrewingco.481
@woodshedbrewingco.481 10 ай бұрын
If the keg is in full fermentation it will push the star San out of the serving keg in less than 10 mins. I will typically let the pressure built in the ferm keg for a few mins while I am getting my lines set up then link them together and let it go. It will start pushing right away if the pressure has built over 5-10 psi. I normally pressure ferment at 10 so it works pretty quickly. Hope this helps. Sláinte

Ya, I’ve started fermenting in a keg and then I thought why not try leaving it in there instead of transferring to secondary. It was an IPA and it only developed in flavour over the few weeks it took for me to drink the beer. No bad flavours or off flavours. It even cleared up the more it sat. Nice video.

This is a really interesting video. I'm currently weighing up whether or not I go the closed transfer route, or brew and serve in a single keg route. This was really helpful 👍 Cheers!

So far I’ve been really happy with the results. Don’t think I’d leave the beer in there for a super long time on the east but if you’re gonna drink it in a reasonable amount of time I think it’s a great method to try for yourself. Appreciate you watching. Sláinte

Ever run your experiment to figure out if you needed to transfer to a serving keg vs keep it sitting on top of the yeast cake and serving out of the floating dip?

Thanks for the video. My thought would be how much time will it take for any negative results to appear? I would guess it would take at least 2-3 months for the yeast to die and decay enough to have a flavor impact. It is a race against time but the yeast is being stored cold under beer, so not a bad environment. Eventually there will be brown/black color in the yeast and they will get nasty but probably well past when you would drink the beer. So your experiment shows this is probably a viable approach for beers sensitive to oxygen. A floating dip tube would go along well with this approach. Dry hopping is tough due to the closed nature but magnets are your friend! Best of luck!

Appreciate the feedback. Agree. Typically beers don’t hang around much past the 3 month around here. I guess I should so more experiments with a longer age and see the impacts. Sláinte
