It's amazing how many bad explanations for this process that exist on youtube. This one finally answered all my questions, thanks!

Thanks for sharing, You gave a great explanation on how to do for a closed transfer. I've watched other videos and didn't fully understand. This was an easy explanation for me to understand. I'll have to try this in the future. Cheers!

@@woodshedbrewingco.481 Yours looks simpler, they used a t-piece to pressure both cylinders at once. I'm planning pressure fermenting (very low pressures, 5psi). I'll be daisy chaining the fermentation gas out to the serving keg and then having the spunding valve on the serving keg. Once fermentation is going big guns I'll increase the spunding pressure to 10psi. This should allow me to purge my serving keg pretty well for free.

@@woodshedbrewingco.481 I got a Vic Secret IPA kit to brew and then I'm going to try and learn me some techniques. Going to brew my way through John Palmer's "How to Brew". If I get a beer that ain't great then I know it'll be something I've done rather than the recipe. 🤣

Nice video! Are you doing this method primarily because you don’t want to waste CO2? I’m thinking compared to just pushing the beer with pressure from one keg to another. That should be just as safe oxidation-wise, right?
@woodshedbrewingco.481
@woodshedbrewingco.481 Жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. Trying to conserve CO2 is possible. If you just push with a CO2 canister it will work just as well. Hope the vide was helpful!! Slainte

What inner diameter of lines work best for this? Does it matter?
@john-smith.

I don't know...seems like you're being a little paranoid about the little bit of 02 in in your lines. Personally a keg of beer only last a week or 2 around my house. I mean I dump from conical to keg, and that has to be a lot more 02....but I understand that if it works for you, great. You should try serving from your fermenting keg sometime.....I know you replied about yeast autolisys(sp)...but that probably wont start to happen for a month or 2 in a keg in the fridge (unless you used old yeast, with many dead ones in the pitch). I once had beer in a secondary for 6 months before i added priming sugar for bottling and the yeast (at least some) were alive, and that was at room temp storage, and it tasted fine....but that is subjective, and I was a new brewer.

Yea with 6 kegs in my keezer a keg of beer last at least a month or 2 unless I have a gathering at the house. Figure it’s worth a little assurance especially for the cost of some of the hops. I’ve had a NEIPA turn color / flavor on me in a few weeks. I don’t think it’s a “have to do” process but just more of a cautious process. Thanks for the feedback. Gonna do a brew soon to check out leaving the brew in the fermentation keg to see what happens

@@woodshedbrewingco.481 Yeah, if you got a lot of hops or expensive grain bill it might be best to do what makes sense to you. If your gonna do a video series you could possibly start with a mild and move your way towards a hoppy one for comparison....might be a good video series if your so inclined with an update or giving feedback of the beer over time in the keg.

If you pressurize the fermenter keg a little more than the serving keg, the transfer should be smoother

@@woodshedbrewingco.481 It will also work better if you don't have the gas lines connected when you're burping the bottom keg. Only connect the liquid lines, then burp the bottom keg (which should effectively make the top keg have more pressure) and it will start the liquid down the liquid line. Then immediately hook up your gas lines and you should be good to go with gravity taking over on the syphon.

It’s actually effective for a lot longer than that. As long at the PH is at the appropriate level it is still effective. We had a rep from Five Star come to a club meeting and talk about some FAQ around StarSan. How long it is effective was a huge conversation. Hope this helps
