Yeah it was too quiet. It was only just louder than stock. So this gave it a decent note with out being obnoxious.

Running: Motox version one exhaust with baffle. 8holes drilled in the baffle as it was too quiet. SSS tuned ecu stage 2.1. Shortened intake to airbox snokel. Unifilter airfilter kit with prefilter Frog skin airbox cover MPE suspension. Thats the only performance mods apart from tyres. But thats personal choice.

Hey mate, i just came across your channel and you look to be the perfect person to ask as im looking to buy my first bike which will replace my 4wd as a daily commuter and weekend getaway use case but I've got my eyes on the crf300 and the drz. With all the money you've spent on mods for the crf, do you have any regrets? The only thing making me consider the drz is the extra power and better suspension that comes with the bike from the factory But 1 thing the drz will never have is a street bike engine so that's a major factor im taking into account with the crf. I've just seen people throw big money with ecu's, suspension, big bore kits etc with the crf and am pretty frugal with what i spend on vehicles as you never get that money back if you need to sell it one day so im just trying to weigh up which way to go. I am leaning more towards the crf for the better bang for buck as it's more modern and fuel efficient etc Keen to hear your perspective now that you've owned it for a while. Thanks for your time

So where to begin…. The drz has more power and it can be felt in the bush…. But on the highway and higher speeds above 80kph id rather have the crf. Fuel economy is better on the crf 10fold the 6th gear overdrive is a god send. As for suspension the drz stock suspension is as soft as the crf. Maybe less of a pogo stick but it will need to be updgraded. They both need suspension upgrades even just trail riding. As soon as you place any weight on the rear or a heavier tank on the drz it become a land barge that doesnt turn. If you want power, speed and a race bike dont buy either bike. If want a commuter that can do highway, trails, some thing that can go camping and some soft single track grab the crf. If you want alot of torque and no top end power, heavy but reliable old school bike get the drz. You will spend 2gs on upgrades on either bikes easily enough once you do suspension, seats, protection etc. Its only when you start chasing power will you spend more. A ecu, filter, exhaust for the crf will be around 1-1.3grand. Jetting, filter and exhaust for the drz and to be tuned as its a carby bike will be the same. Would I get another drz…. Only if they brought it out lighter by 20kgs, injected and a 6th gear. Hence why I sold mine and got a crf. I still ride with a few drz riders and can keep up with them with only filter and an exhaust done. So that should tell you something.

@@rickos_motoFirst of all thank you for the detailed reply, I genuinely appreciate it and it made what was a really hard choice more obvious (crf wins imo). I've got a few months before I get my RE license so not being able to test ride anything has been killing me aha It's good to hear that the power of the crf is more flexible. Having more power in the drz is nice but if it only shines in the bush and not at 100 kph then I can understand why you sold it. I want to ride to the bush but if if I was going to tow it, a drz would make more sense, but then at that point I don't know why I'd even be choosing a dual sport over an enduro bike You're the first person I've heard mention that the suspension needs upgrading on the drz too. I was under the assumption that it's good to go stock. at least that makes the crf a much easier sell. with the $2k in mods to the crf, that brings the price up to the same as a stock drz as they're close to $11k these days and its $9k for a crf300L which I'm leaning towards as theres less plastic that can break off road as I'm sure I'll drop the bike a bit as I'm a novice rider. I'll just add a bigger fuel tank and rally tower aftermarket I think. Thanks again, hearing from somebody who's owned both holds so much more weight than hearing from somebody who's brand loyal on the forums

@@JoshSinnott97 The DRZ suspension is adequate for trail riding. When I went harder riding with a couple of mates on mx/enduro bikes and pushed the pace the bike wallowed and was unresponsive. What you have to understand is that the DRZ weighs around 140kg wet standard. 8-10l tank. But once you throw a 17l tank safari tank theres an extra 20-25kgs. So its now hitting 165-175kgs wet. The suspension is only rated for 82kg riders. So if your a light weight its not so much of a problem. But if you like a beer and the odd pie your going to have issues. Crf rally with 12.5l tank wet is only around 148kgs. So at the end of the day its going to be a lighter more responsive bike(especially after suspension). I never got to test ride the rally fully before i bought it and rode 500klms straight home on the highway only to turn on to a local dirt track and think oh crap i bought the wrong bike due to the suspension. But approx 2 months later and the suspension updated that changed straight away. Even without power mods.

I've heard some drz owners say that it feels like the bike is trying to kill you on the freeway too lol I'm 75kg on a good day but if I'm carting 10 - 20kg of camping gear that's where I (and pretty much everybody) would need to upgrade Did you test ride both the L and the Rally? I know you said you didn't test ride it "fully" but I gather you knew enough to pull the trigger on choosing a model? Did the wind protection from the fairings make you lean towards the rally? Every other difference can be added to the L in the aftermarket. I just wonder how good of a job crash bars can do and if its worth the money and weight when i could mod the L and not have to worry about buying crash bars to prevent breaking the fairings. It's hard to know if its worth the wind protection. Even though realistically its a 70/30 street bike. I've heard replacement fairings can cost up to $1k to replace and I know I'm bound to drop my bike at some stage at the replacements could be on going if i start pushing my skills as time goes on

Looks good Rick, they are a nice bike. I’m keen to get back out on the bike myself, it’s been awhile. Missed the last group ride, just didn’t see it on the group page. Maybe next time. As far as riding gear goes you can’t go much past Alpinestars, just the cost is the draw back.

Moto-x version 1. The oem spark arrestor is loud so I ordered the baffle from biker bits in thailand. I then modified it by drilling 4 of the 8 holes out to 8mm.

Great video Ricko, not too expensive for the suspension mods either. I can see myself downsizing to something like the CRF300 rally one day, at 64 I do find the T7 a bloody big and heavy bike, especially after a decent ride like the recent one. Cheers mate 👍👍🍻🍻
