As a technical artist I note some misinformation in this video 3:01 - Normals maps are not improve the light bouncing especially in waters, it just improve the surface detail of a 3D mesh per pixel. For water, it need to add refraction and reflection maps and advanced rendering algorithms in vertex and fragment shader code to improve the light bouncing effect basically 3:45 - bro told CPU do some calculations but better to said it mostly the physics calculation how the bullet interact the water, meanwhile vertex displacement is not responsible to displace the water splash or ripples, it just calculate the vertex movement of water plane in vertex shader by taking the physics calculation of the impact. Means physic engine handle the water interaction, but vertex displacement use that calculation to show as visually. 5:50 - Black flag and mainly Sea of thieves not only using vertex displacement, they using Fast Fourier transform mathematical algorithm and beyond that for it. It basically just a sum of sine waves. When u talk about water, sine waves are fundamental in water to cover even though u talking about the basics. 6:02 - ship movement is a part of buoyancy physics for simulate water, that is core component of the game, btw it is not a extra effect 😅 6:20 - most importantly doing water simulation in games is a pretty difficult thing in terms of technical, bcz the dev must have strong understanding in maths, physics and shaders especially in computer graphics just I want to point out this. Here the thing that I want to correct on your video, it is good initiative to talking about this technical thing as basic level in youtube.
