In America the song was recorded by the Flamingos then the Persuasions and the meanings are different because Native Americans called Black Soldiers Buffalo Soldiers because their Black skin and wooly haired reminded them of Buffalo. The African version is about immigrating to America to become rich. Bob Marley’s version is great bu it is not the original and our children love it too. I am descended from Buffalo Soldiers. Two totally different songs, only the title and the word America in both songs. They both see America in a different light. Look up the song "Hello" it is sang by Lionel Richie as well as a Trinidadian group Kes as well as a British singer, all three are totally different songs. Please stop over analyzing this.
