As kids growing up in Liberia, we sang the song, especially during football matches and other celebratory events. Shakira should admit that "Waka Waka" isn't her creation. It's the Golden Voices'. It's an African dance song that existed before Shakira was born.

Technically not before she was born, but otherwise yeah the original group should get credit and royalties

But she has claimed to have cooked up the song all by herself during a walk

Thank you for pointing this out. I have been going crazy wondering why no one who is talking about this. I remember this as a kid and couldn't understand why people thought she did it.

I have no respect for Shakira . I am a Cameroonian and this came out in the mid 80 . It was a big hit in Cameroon and in many African countries. How in the world shakira , who was born in 1978 created a song when she was only 8 years old ? I was shocked when I heard her claiming in live tv that she created this son .

Shakira stole the music from Cameroon period!!!

The original authors deserve 100 percent of the song writing royalties. My bet is shakira didn’t do it on purpose though because in this day and age the truth always comes to light.

Nope, she invest to learn it and recreate it. You can do to but you DIDN’T. That’s the point.

The truth is Shakira copied that song from the golden sound. and I'm sure she did that without any copyright license. she should be sued for that. As Africans we always allow the whites to step on us and get away with it. When she released her own version of that song, I knew it was a copy of the original song. but at that time, I was thinking she only used a famous African song to recognize and appreciate Africa for hosting the world cup for the first time in world cup history. She was just 9years old when the Golden sound released the original version.

Yes and you Africans let she gets away with it without exposing her! That's all Africans do is to let EVERBODY USE THEM FOR FREE! DID YOU EXPOSE Shakara?

I like Shakira, especially her early work. But shame on her. Also, African artist should have sang any song about Africa. She could have sung a Latin song. I find your videos to be very educational, interesting, and well articulated. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I came up to know this song some decades back when I was a toddler. We used to sing this song in Malawi since it was so famous by then, this song its really composed and originally done by Africans, Shakira must pay for stealing someone's talent.
@victorjohnson76293 ай бұрын
The phrase "this time for Africa" on its own already implies that the song had been done at an earlier time. So she indirectly admits to stealing/borrowing/copying the original song.

Shakira sang it first, then Zangalewa traveled to the future and stole the song from her, obviously. WAKA WAKA WA EH EH

That is African language, a Cameroonian language so what Nonsense are you talking about? She stole the song and lied about it. Shakira is shameless
