the 3 sting rays are so so beautiful I've never seen spots pattern and they come in 3! I am checking out where to dive in Cuba, do you think Cayo Largo is better than Maria de la Gorda?

Interesting video. How come there is so little sea life? It's like the water is sterile. Which is great for diving. Another interesting point, how did they excavate that part of the quarry that is now underwater?

Thanks again. For the music I did get a notice that it would not play in some countries (Germany I think is one?) due to blah blah..I find this ludicrous from KZbin...on one hand they make a fuzz about using some little known piece of classical music and yet one can watch entire episodes of pretty much any TV show or large parts of thousand of movie. I sometimes buy royalty free music online, many of my videos have such music, but at 30-40$ a pop one gets tired of being so righteous....

Hello, I am familiar with these spots and yes you can snorkel there, your head will be in the water with a mask and fins, but you will not see much. Without a reef or other structure nearby fishes do not hang out too much in wide open sandy areas, there will be some but not much. You could try however, on a calm day, the rocky beach in front of the Lindamar Hotel (little pointy cottages east of the Pelicano). I have been there with the kids and it was OK. Bring some bread or banana as feed.

Sorry for replying so late. As far as I can tell the dive center has lots of gear and it all seems in decent shape.

Spectacular video, loved the music too! I was just in Cayo Largo in Feb., 2012 and was disappointed that I could not see much by snorkeling near the shore. I think it is really worth learning how to dive, you see so much more. At the hotel, they told me it may be problematic getting fitted properly at the Dive Center because they don't have very much equipment. Did you find this to be true?

@scubadvd I have done a video of such a snorkeling excursion. KZbin won't allow posting of a link ;-(, this is the title: ALEXANDRE et THALIE SNORKEL À CAYO LARGO 2010
@scubadvd12 жыл бұрын
@dinudcatalin I am glad you enjoyed. I have many other similar videos. There are not really shore accesible spots to snorkel or scuba in Cayo Largo. However it is possible to go out on the ocean with large groups in catamarans (not my thing personally) or charter smaller boats, with one crew, by yourself and go snorkeling in shallow waters inside the reef where there is a lot to be seen. Best way is to go to the marina and organize yourself for this kind of excursion.

@divelogin Hi, I use a Sony HVR-A1U HDV camera in a Amphico EVO-Pro housing and two small 10W HID light that are effective at close range. You should be able to do pretty good with your set-up. Practice, practice, practice!

I must confess that I am not any good at distinguishing one kind of coral from another. I just enjoy the views!!! However there is very little diver traffic in Cayo Largo which probably help with keeping the reef healthy. I would say that at the most 30-40 divers per day will spread over one of the dozens of sites around the island.

Thanks for posting this video of what appears to be a very healthy Caribbean reef... I live in Puerto Rico and we still have some very nice reefs, but the elkhorn and staghorn corals are usually dead or damaged...l did you see any healthy stands of those corals in Cuba?

Thanks again for your kind words!!! I appreciate. Very few people dive there without a dry suit. I did...once...my first time there, not impossible. I have a very good 2 piece 7mm Bare wet suit and it's OK, however hands and feet will get very cold. The body it's OK. Imagine walking outside in the winter in -20c in sneakers with no gloves...for an hour. That's about how it felt. Plus the energy the cold drains from you will make you very tired and not doing 2-3 dives per day.

Glad I could help:-) Contrary to what many divers would like everyone to believe, it is not really abig deal to dive. It is a sport like any other and can be learned by anyone.

Hi Glad you appreicate the video. Do u mean scuba diving this site? No very easy site, anything easier is a swimming pool. Or do you mean scuba in general? No it is not difficult, it is sport like any other and it can be learned. Just like you can learn skiing, golfing, surfing etc...Of course with the underwater element I can not stress enough that adequate TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL. If you go play golf with no lessons you will not die, just play poorly. Diving with no training can kill you
